Where can I go instead of pitsburg diesel to add more horse power to my big cam 350 I want maybe 500 to 550 it's going in a 85 frieghtshaker with a 15spd. What are the prices ranges for this transplant.

    Thanks

I'm doing this from memory so vrify it before you take it as gospel. Your 350 is the same as a 400 with the only differences being the settings inside the pump. it may have different injectors also but I'm not sure.
Anyways what I would do is get that dual feed fuel line Pitsburg sells. it feeds fuel fromt he rear of the head as well as the front of the head. the stock setup only feeds the front of the head and you can get psi drop by the time you get to the rear injectors. then get a bigger set of good flowed injectors for it, and find an old timer mechanic who knows these engines good to turn your fuel pump up some. That's all you need to do to hit those numbers.
Also might not hurt increasing the size of the fuel line from the tanks. I forget what size it is they upgrade it to. This probably doesn't need to be done for those HP levels but seeing as the lines are over 20 years old they could be swollen inside restricting the flow some.

    1989 Pete Thanks this.

Probably enough to break the crank, as that is the weak spot.

If not then it's at least enough to pop a few head bolts every few thousand miles :biggrin_25525:

I don't think it would be enough to worry about the crank as long as he's not running around dumping the clutch

any figure I gave on power would be an estimate but I think you'd be up where you mentioned. Remember these motors "feel" different then the electronics. Torque is much less, they like rpm, you have instant throttle response not the delayed computer response. I think you'd be happy

these motors do require more maintenance. unless it's a newer model with the pressed liners they generaly need pistons and liners every year or two, bearings about the same and they do tend to blow head gaskets and break head bolts failry regularly. guess it's a good thing they are easy to work on! lol
