has anyone tried doing this, found out k&n make HD filters for applications but very pricey. i had an idea of somehow deleteing air filter cartidge or refilling it with another type of material, i was looking into the blue wire looking type cartridge filters used for home AC filter systems which i think would work as long as its secured properly to prevent it from being sucked into engine, i think anything is better flow then the crappy stock paper element. i was even thinking about using a square type stock replacement k&n filter buy 2 of them and make somesort of mount on the inside part of my 10" outside air cleaner housings. its all about getting a tight seal.

just make a tube to the front of the truck or side. let the air force feed as your driving down the road. take the air filter out.

you can't get any better then that.

course, you can burn up valves by not having air filtration and some type of resistance. least, that's what would happen on cars. not sure about trucks.

no im pretty sure there needs to be a filter im just saying as the stock paper element filter is very restrictive.

and with no filter you can damage turbo fins quick and clog up air to air coolers.

I have been using a Fleet Air Filter for a while in my intake. I decided to go with it when I put on a larger turbo so there would be no restriction. Especially since I have an underhood intake filter location.

Disposable blue A/C filters sound's like the worst idea. It's not going to filter the air. Stop being cheap, just buy an air filter they aren't that much money, how often do you really buy one?

Old rigs ran a zero restriction oil bath air filter, you just changed the oil out every so often and that was all you had to do.

He's never seen one ? Hey, FLC..... forget this man, wrong path. Engine gets plenty of air. One mistake and your invention gets sucked in the turbo.......bad deal.

You want to help your horse ? Focus on your fuel. The mission: 2 fold, raise BTU content per cm and cool it off before it reaches injectors. There is horsepower to be had in that formula THEN figure out how to cool the air charge more. The air intake temp has to go down, denser air makes a bigger boom.

So: Temperatures down and BTU's up = Horsepower

wouldnt the air intake temps drop if running a less restrictive filter due to the fact turbos not working so hard to draw cool air from ambient in thru filters, air cooler then thru pipes to turbo??

i was aware it could be sucked up into turbo if not mounted tightly and correctly, theres a couple guys down here which ive driven there trucks before and after and have felt a difference with just this mod on there trucks , truck is alot more throttle repsonsive as well as the turbo could be spooling a whole lot more then with this big paper element dummy donkey filters.

K&n makes a HD filter for class 8 trucks but they are apart of a different division of k&n so they cost a lot more being there proprietary to k&N HD diesel dept...

What i was thinking was getting a filter for a car application which is square like 12" by 12" and 2" thick mounting each one with screws and a trim around both within the stock exterior mounted air cleaners this way i can pull out filters still and clen them often. as for the AC element i was just using it as an example. i plan on using to standard k&n stock replacement square air filters in each cleaner.

I will show pics on what im planning on doing no way i plan on keeping paper elements after the difference i saw with pulling them out and replacing with something alot better flow.
