I have been working at Holt Cat. for about two weeks. I have a mandatory two weeks of training before I will be assigned my own tractor and trailer. The holidays has messed this up, somewhat. I should be in my own tractor this coming week or next.

I am assigned to the Austin, TX store, though that doesn't really matter. We are dispatched out of San Antonio or Irving with the dividing line in Waco. We can be home every night or make it back home on Saturday. Since I'm training, I'm out most, if not all week. We haul for all of the various Holt Cat. Divisions. Our area covers from OK border to S. Texas, West to Sonora and East to LA. We can go outside of this area from time to time. Usually, they will put these loads on an outside carrier. If you are a Heavy Haul carrier based in Texas, you might want to get set up with Holt Cat.

I will be assigned a four axle Day Cab Pete 365 and a three axle trailer with a fourth axle or Stinger attached. The trailers are Load Kings hydraulic RGNs.

We have annual Oversize and Overweight Permits we run under. Frequently, we have to get permits and escorts for loads not covered by the annual permit.

This is my largest load so far:

Your lucky the cat dealership in the northeast (Milton) never had company trucks. They always hired everything out.

You should have it pretty good there. Our local Cat dealers used to be Holt, the guys were much happier working for hole than they are Ohio Cat. They say Peter Holt is a nice guy.

I used to work for Brandeis, a heavy equipment dealer in IN, KY, and TN. They had one in house hauler, and several contractors they used on a regular basis.

Good to hear you are doing ok. I had to do a double take on the screen name. I remember when you went out on your own.
I take it that didn't pan out to well seeing how the rates have been the last few years..
Good luck in your new venture

No, it was working out. My truck has over 1,000,000 miles on it, same with the trailer. I was about to have to dump big bucks into the operation. On top of that, I didn't have health insurance and fine s are about to dramatically increase. I've always wanted to pull heavy haul and had been thinking about working for Holt for years. Over the years I have delivered a lot of backhoes there and elsewhere, all over the country and Canada. I decided to apply and I guess they wanted me, so, here I am.

@terrylamar Your going to have a tough time getting that rig into Starbucks!!

Congrats on the new gig though, I know the driving jobs here at Foley where I live are very hard to come by and VERY sought after. I've applied many times over the years but never got the call.

    terrylamar and MJ1657 Thank this.
