I was going to take 77 south to US60, but chickened out at the last moment (the few replies I got on the CB advised against it), and went through Flagstaff instead. 77/60 is approx 40 miles shorter, but I don't know if it is any faster (probably not).
Anyone do this alternate route? Good, or bad?
Holbrook to Phoenix?

It's a nice drive and I used to take it a lot, but it's hilly and twisty in areas, plus you have to go thru Grayson?, and more lights when you get into Pheonix.

I went that way once routed by CFI.I must have seen 500 Swift trucks. They all go that way.

AZ77 south to AZ377 south to AZ277 south west to AZ 260 west to AZ87 South, I run it all the time, good running road. Takes about the same time as running the interstate. Don't listen to the interstate monkeys. great drive too.
fargonaz, FerrissWheel and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
Wonder which one costs less to drive? go one way and make notes and then the other and take notes!

Why on Earth would you even consider 77/60?
Stump's reply gives you the best way to go unless there's a blizzard on the Rim.

Thank you so much. I can't log that many miles tonight going thru flagstaff and was wondering if this was a legal truck route. I don't care about more time because I'm on paper logs. Pulling a flatbed loaded heavy. Any hard pulls thru that area? -
It didn't use to be so cut-and-dry, az377 used to have a 30 ton weight limit.
Better yet, if delivering to the east valley, take NM117(I-40 MM 89) to NM36 to US60, awesome scenery with El Malpais National Monument and the Salt River canyon.moonerman Thanks this.
