I was parked finishing up my 34 reset. It was around 4:15 A.M. I felt a jolt of the truck which woke me out of a dead sleep, and new some one had just hit me. By the time I got outside the truck or who ever it was that hit me was long gone. Will I be at fault or will it be considered a non-preventable since I didnt get the trucking companies info. Btw, I did file a police report stating I was in my sleeper which my logs will show when the event happened. Thanks.
Hit and run.

Not your fault as long as you can prove it. If your company tries to make it your fault move on to greener pastures ASAP and don't tell them you're leaving.

Logs show in sleeper.
The moment of accident/incident/Call the LAW (Police report they make will descibe exact time etc) You better be on duty at that ime. If you were running about lookign for that one who got clean away while trashing your truck in a truckstop lot?
Then it's possible to have the police pull the surveillance tapes. Any truck departing within say 10 minutes of your accident should be investigated and followed up on to see if there is damage to his paint, scratched aluminum etc.
Note into log accident, not at fault reference police dept, police report and physical address of company. You are finished when everyone is finished with you (Shop boss, company safety etc)
Log back into sleeper or hotel off duty and really get some rest before going anywhere.
Check your recaps carefully so that you don't bust your 70 10 minutes into your first actual workday.Aces-N-Eights Thanks this. -

Pictures of the truck parked in a marked spot. Then one closer showing the truck in the spot with the debris on the ground. Then walk to the other side of the aisle and take a pic. your pictures should tell your story.misterG, gentleroger, AModelCat and 2 others Thank this. -

This is why dash cams with shock sensor event saves are so valuable.
It's also good to take a pic of all the trucks that may be across from you (take from in front of the hood of your truck, and directly forward, for physical location reference), and afterwards, go by and write down names and truck numbers [and look if any have dash cams visible]. Then if worse comes to worse, you can email or phone them to see if maybe they captured something on their dash cam that they may be wiling to search for and forward to you.Last edited: Jul 30, 2018

I got hit 4 times my last 2 years on the road, one took off before I could get up and out of the truck to catch who did it. Just call the cops and take a lot of pics. If you see anyone in the lot or anyone next to you who is awake, ask if they saw anything. All you can do.
I always made it a point to park where the risk of being hit was minimal, and still got hit way too often. The last time I caught the guy red handed and got it on video of him trying to get off of my trailer and ripping my trailer tail off. Kid pulled into it, wasn’t even backing lol. Just one of those annoyances you unfortunately have to deal with eventually
