I am debating whether or not to take highway 212 from Rapid City, SD to Billings, MT, or should I just take I-90 all the way, which has extra miles. Anyone familiar with the area? Are there a lot of steep climbs on 212? Pros and Cons? I would appreciate any advice. BTW, my truck is wimpy and has been mechanically castrated by fuel costs and insurance companies (governed). Thaanx.
Highway 212 in SD/WY/MT....use it or skip it???

Just one steep climb, I run it all the time and like it better than taken 90 around.

Its a good road. Run it. will save you some miles.
They were doing some construction that was a couple miles of dirt road while the rebuilt main road. Might be done by now. But don't let that stop you.
Watch out for deer at night too.
Especially near Broadus.luvtotruck Thanks this. -
Over 30 years ago I ran it often! I stopped in a little town in Wyoming and went into a restaurant, I could swear that John Wayne, Billy the Kid, Clint Eastwood, etc. were going to walk in any minute, just had that feel, when we left the other three drivers said they had the same feeling!
