I started my 1st trucking job with this company a couple months back. Seemed fine at first.

Initially they told me during the hiring process that I would be delivering to Texas. After day 4 of orientation they booked me with a co-driver who was also a newby and barely spoke English. They told us that now they are sending us to california.

I went along with all of it. It was a nightmare trip. After we finished our run we returned to the yard.

I went home. I get a call to come into the office, they fire me without giving me any reason.

I wait until payday...my cheque is for $27 vacation pay...NOTHING for my trip. I call, I ask where is my pay?? And they tell me that because I RESIGNED, I was not entitled to the money as they retain a $2500 fee is the driver quits before a year.

I never quit, they FIRED me.

This has happened to other drivers apparently. This is about as bad as a company can get. Shady from day #1.

Side note: if anyone can tell me how I can view my hours or get a copy from my ELD please let me know. I'll need to send as much info as I can to the labor board of Canada.

New drivers watch out for this company!!!

If you can find the number for the eld company they are using, call them directly… you will likely have to give them quite a bit of information to prove you are who you say you are so make sure you know roughly when you were where. I have gotten records that way before. Can’t say all companies will help though.

good luck on getting the labor board to do their job.

Hopefully you read the paperwork you signed in orientation and did not sign an agreement stating you would forfeit $2500 if you were terminated within 12 months of hiring on.

p.s. Terminate is HR speak for ending employment with the company. If you quit, you terminated employment with them. If you were fired, they terminated your employment with them.

The contract stated that if I resigned before the years end I would forfeit the $2500.

I never resigned & even if that were the case, I made over $2500. So there's still outstanding pay.

Mostly I just want any job seekers out there to be wary of this company

If that’s how the contract reads, then, you may have a bit of leverage with the labor board. It would certainly be worth a conversation with them.

If I understand your story correctly you delivered a load from Concord Ontario To California. You then returned to the "yard" and then were fired, no reason given. Couple of questions, if I may. Where is the yard? Did you return empty? How long did this trip take? How many paid miles were on this trip?
