I searched but can't find any info on the right replacement high flow fuel filter head for my ACERT. I replaced the stock 90GPH with a CAT 120GPH head about a year and a half ago. It was recently tested and it's sucking air again - cracked I guess. What's the best alternative without going for 800 clams for a FASS? I have a BXS with the PDI stage 1 tune, M100463 mufflers and 190 thermostats. I took off the fuel temp wire when I had the tune done. I just put on a new style transfer pump but my pressure is low - about 80 on the factory gauge and jumping all over the place. Can that be caused by sucking air?

Thanks Rob, where do I get that? It's a Fleetguard number? What's the flow rating?

If you want the best filtration and the minimum restriction, install a Davco set up. If you google Davco 333 there is a video and you will never again have to guess whether the filter is dirty, whether you are sucking air up to the filter, whether the last load of fuel had water in it.
They are by far the very best set up.
Detroit use to double the injector warranty if you had the system installed.
Just a thought and another option.

We used to have quite a few trucks running davco setups but now everything is taking off or bypassed because on more then one truck we found the davco was allowing air into the fuel system. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. Maybe it was cause ares were a couple years old, not sure.

Thanks for the info. I know a few guys who swear by them but I have no experience with them at all. I see a bunch of them on EBay for sale, cheap. I probably should pony up the cash for a FASS...... if it gives me even 2/10ths improvement it will pay for itself in short order.

The Davco system is like anything else you have to take care and use the proper lube on the "O" rings and wrench to assemble it. If you do not do that you will damage it. You can screw up anything if you try, we all know people that can, without trying.
I have a Racor filter that works perfectly the guy was told they cause problems so he took it off. When he had fuel system problems after that, it was always another cause. Why because he talked to some guy in a restaurant or on the CB.
The Davco system is the best and you do not waist filters, if there is a problem you can see it. I have seen spin on filters that were cracked at the seam that sucked air, and drained back. Does that mean that every spin-on is junk?

Whenever I posed a similar question to the Filter Product people of Cat, this is the reply I got from the manager of the Cat "Filter Products Component Group"
"Recommend the use of 202-9871 Base, with the 326-1643 Fuel/Water Separator...it has more than adequate flow for all C15 applications and is heavily used in the Cat Off-Highway equipment."

This is the primary, Fuel/Water separator, and also requires a bowl, part # 3435527.
    Downsides are that:
    (1) The filter is pricey...$47.00 at my local Cat store.
    (2) Haven't found it at ANY truckstop.
    (3) Trying to cross reference it only shows one aftermarket manufacturer, (Wix, I think), and no one in my area stocked it.

I haven't gotten around to mounting it yet, so cannot rate it.
If you google the base part #, or the filter #,(can't remember which), along with good reading on the various Cat filters available for that base, there is also a fine looking base offered; it has an electric pump neatly set on top of it, option to prime only, or supply constant pressure, similar to the Fass setup, I suspect.
Local Cat store quoted me $550.00. I purchased the regular base, and an automotive type fuel pump to prime. (less $$$).

    They're there, look harder.

I'm running this setup, the 202-9871 base with a 1R-0771 filter/separator setup, and I've been happy with it, FWIW. I don't have an electric pump on mine though, just a hand primer pump. (edit) This isn't on an Acert, it's on a 3406E, but I've gotten noticeably better fuel mileage with it.
