    I have seen one of these on my old bosses mack highway tractor. He removed it as he was going through a lot of oil. It was working fine always keeping oil on full mark. Problem was all engines find there "happy oil level" in the case of his mack if the oil level was at half way point it wouldn't use or leak any between services. Keep it on the full mark and he had to add oil often to get it back on full. Its strange but I have seen this quite often before on other engines.
