Help! PA license will expire

    My drivers license is due to expire on Monday. I live in PA which doesn’t allow for CDLs to be renewed online. I went to the DMV today to do my renewal and they’re closed! Apparently they are observing Juneteenth today even thought the holiday is Monday. They are closed Monday as well. So the earliest I would be able to renew would be Tuesday at which point my license would be expired for one day. I am not currently a driver and was just keeping my CDL in case I ever go back to it. Will it be an issue renewing it if it’s expired by one day? This is my first time renewing and I’m kicking myself for waiting until the last minute. I can’t find any info specific to PA and Penn DOT website is vague. Thanks in advance

    never wait till last minute pn renewing license or medical card.
    need that extra time for inexpected issues

    I’m not sure about PA, but in Michigan they allow for an extension if your license expires on a weekend or legal holiday.

    This is a quote from the Michigan SOS website. Hopefully, the same is true for PA.

    “The expiration date of your license is extended to include the next business day if your license expires on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday.”

    In Idaho you have up to 1 year to renew a license, after it expires, before you have to retest. Thats for a class D. A CDL I believe you have 30 days.

    Relax. Won't be a problem to renew at all. Only issue would be if you let your physical lapse you would run the risk of being downgraded if you self-certified that you carry a physical.

    I am a former Pennsylvania CDL examiner. You will be fine, we give you 364 days to renew before your CDL privileges are removed. You should have someone else drive you to the license center to avoid the possibility of something stupid happening like a crash or traffic stop while your DL is technically expired. Pennsylvania does not extend expiration dates for weekends, holidays or days the license center is closed.
