I have a 300 psi liquid filled gauge but would like to know the best place to hook to the pump (don’t really wanna T into the feed line if possible).

    Thanks for the help!!

It’s only making 15 pounds of boost and having trouble maintaining highway speeds ~65-70 when I hit any kind of grade, and that’s only loaded to 50k. That’s also hitting it at 1900rpms (it’s a formula 400, so that’s all it’ll go). It just falls on its face. It starts great, fires right up, purrs like a kitten, doesn’t slobber, runs great, other than being down on power...

So that’s where I am now, just wanna see how much fuel I’m putting to it before I decide what to do next.

It has almost no blow by (previous owner claimed an in frame was done 250k ago) and only smokes slightly under heavy load, but then clears up...

The hose you asked about runs down to a distribution block? I’m guessing that’s what it is, then splits into 2 hoses, one going directly into the rear of the head, and the other Daisey chains to what looks like glow plugs ( I know they’re not) pardon my ignorance, I just don’t know very much about these motors, but am trying to learn all I can.

    Thank you for your response!!!

The gauge goes on the side of the shut off solenoid. I don't know where that other line runs to but that plug there is normally plugged and you put a gauge there. You would have to put a T fitting with a plug where that line is in there.

If you are very low on boost I would check your AFC.

It looks like you’ve got the NT88 big cam 4. It was the transition or “bridge”.between the NTC and the N14. Only produced for a couple years. 88-90. Other than the 855 cid and the pt pump the parts are only good for that engine. I believe Not much else interchanges. They used different heads, water manifold, water pump, and profile cams than the regular big cams. Been told an N14 exhaust manifold will bolt on but not sure. They had both fixed timed and stc timed available. The timing system was unique as you can see in your pics. It uses fuel pressure seperate from the injector fuel pressure to constently change the timing. That is what that hose you need to tee into does. The Highest rated NT88 was 444.
Does it still have the build tag on it at the front behind the drive assessory pulley just to be sure?

Look for a Cummins service manual specific to that engine.

Most Nt88’s had an F designation in the build codes. The old joke back then was if you had the F engine you were.....Well you know what that F meant.

Yep, the tag is still there, so the fuel line that runs up and around and Daisey chains to each head is for the stc? What is the one that runs to the back of the head for then? It just 90’s directly into the head, between the firewall and head.

That one should be the fuel return. It should tee somewhere with the hose that goes into the return that is coming out of the top of gear pump on the back of the pt. Then it makes its way to one of the tanks.
