In any business a owner should never use more than 1/5th or 20% of their overall cash in case of problems. Being able to diversify ones funds helps towards success. The old saying goes, "Never put All Your Eggs in One Basket". "When it Rains, it Pours" eventually you'll need one of those Eggs when it does!

we had reserves until the original truck broke down. we were already working on a replacement vehicle. Which had a rare incident and that engine seized.
Just need some help so we dont waste money on hotel till this gets out of shop. -
Where do you live and where did he break down?exhausted379, Flat Earth Trucker, W923 and 1 other person Thank this. -
What was a rare incident?
Hotel isn't a waste of money if you need to be there with the truck.wifi_guru Thanks this. -
Check out the charities @Chinatown listed in post #2. He should also call churches in the area where he is at or Salvation army in that area. I'm guessing it will be cheaper to get a bus ticket from the spot of the breakdown back to home and then another bus ticket from home to the repair shop after the repairs are complete than a hotel for all the time it will take to repair/replace the broken engine.

Only thing there is rent a car drive home, going to be a while on rebuild… at least 36-40 book hours, or if you know someone you can run a few loads in their truck, i have had people run one of mine in past for 2-3 months while saved money to fix theirs. -
This is a problem, truck down, miles from home, will take awhile to repair. Either hotel it, or get himself home anyway he can. Car rental, bus, airline, or hitchike with another trucker.
