Lately, I've been having to sink clutch all the way to the floor,to get it in gear, from a full stop. No biggie thats the only time I use the clutch. Occasionally it will slip out of gear when upshifting. I blame that on poor shifting habits.Came in this morning and the thing just slams to the floor. A friend of mine took a look and said I need a clutch. Fine, but my questioning is I haven't had any problems with power delivery or "slipping" as an indication of a failing clutch. Any help appreciated

What kind of truck is this on ?. And will it go in gear with the pedal on the floor ?
Is there any resistance when you push the push down ? -
Freightliner Columbia
C15 cat, Eaton 10 speed (fro16210c). The only resistance comes from the linkages it seems. With a little leverage I was able to move the linkages with my hands. Not able to go in gear with it depressed. Had to start in gear to get the truck moving.
Thanks!!Oxbow Thanks this. -
With the truck not running have someone press on the pedal and someone underneath to watch the fingers and bearing to see how far they move.Oxbow Thanks this. -
My friend said the same as you when I questioned the needing a clutch.
"The pressure plate may be weak or have broken springs." Pedal play moves down via linkages. And I'm able to move clutch by hand. -
Wow…..
I would say something most definitely broke in the throw out or clutch. Your gaps are way off. Did the change happen suddenly?
I agree with your friend. Its days are numbered.Oxbow, D.Tibbitt, JB7 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I started hearing a funny noise when I left Indiana to Pa couldn't really tell where from though. Made it back to Indiana on my way home, then finally realized the sound went away when I half masked the clutch. The throw out is definitely toast. Always noticed a slight play in it. Funny thing is I ordered the clutch adjustment tool on Monday. -
Looks like the bearing separated, way too far back. Like you said, look at the gap between the fingers and bearing, and then between the bearing and clutch that is spinning.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Throwout bearing is done.
New clutch time.Gotstuckwithatruck Thanks this. -
Rideandrepair and Gotstuckwithatruck Thank this.
