HIYA all,,, hope everyone's holiday weekend is going well.
I run as a single (literally) driver my own rig. I'm not 100% happy with my cup holders in my 2008 KW T660. I've been thinking about designing and making my own custom side console that will fit along side the passenger seat. I've even been throwing around the idea of removing the passenger side seat and making some kind of 2 drawer stand where I can have my coffee, my wallet, maybe put my purse in a drawer, a place for some pens and possibly a cool slot that my aluminum form holder will sit, it's where I keep my bills.
Anyone else have a custom console they might be willing to give me some ideas? I have a table saw here at the house so I can drill, sand, cut to build something really custom and looks nice. I want to maybe bolt it to the floor...not sure.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Be safe,
Sophia

If you’re thinking about pulling the seat out you could build a whole cabinet that was only as tall as the bottom of the door window. That would give you quite a bit more storage too.

Seriously? We all be in da wrong bizness...77fib77, Rideandrepair, 86scotty and 1 other person Thank this. -
1- I'm a company driver so no dismantled seats...lol but I have had freezers and dog beds and etc on the passenger side. Make sure you won't miss the side door access. I miss it but no good alternatives...
2- I'm sure there's tons of ideas for customizing the space but I'm leery of how heavy the wood needed in order to not have the fasteners loosen from vibration. I suspect it'd be easier to find a simple plastic 2 or 3 drawer piece from Target. If wood built I'd probably use 1/2" plywood and 1/2×1/2 corner blocking plus a luan back to keep it square..plastic would be much lighter.SophiaWYO and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

Im in the no passenger seat club
But i made a small low console that fit between the seats when i was in a company truck, ive moved that through every single truck ive been in, its got 2 cup holders in front of it, enough space to place a laptop on if need be and space for a caddy underneath it. The wood doesnt need to be all that heavy, i can step on it no problem if needed, (150 lbs, if i had to guess, safe max would be about 250ish) if it moves too much on you, i recommend just adding a angle iron tabs and throwing in some sheet metal screws.
Ill try and remember to snap a few pics and show em later todayslow.rider Thanks this. -
By golly, sweetheart, we've come a loooooong way, with concerns about cup holders. Years ago, our "cup holder" was our left hand, while holding the steering wheel and trying to shift, all at the same time. It's okay, not your fault, but just bolsters my thoughts that drivers today have much different concerns than we had, almost comical, in a way. I've seen some really creative ideas with the jump seat removed. Unless you plan to have a rider, it really is wasted space and can be utilized much better, like an office arrangement. After all, it is your office. Good luck.
