I've got a couple issues going on with my heater fan on my 2013 W900L
First...it's stuck on vent. I can hear clicking up under the glove box so I figure the gear might be stripped on the blend door actuator.
The other problem was intermittent a couple time this year where it would blow at random speeds regardless of where it was set. Sometimes not all...then suddenly would start.
Now it hasn't worked at all for a few weeks. Somey you can feel a very low cold AC coming through the vent then it'll stop a few miles later.
I'm thinking resistor and actuator to fix my problems. Sound like I'm on right track?
Also, where is resistor located on these trucks? On my Western star it is under the dash with blower motor. But on this KW...the blower motor is accessed from the motor bay. Is the resistor in there or behind glove box?
Thanks for any help or ideas

If the resistor goes out all you will have is high speed. I've never worked on a truck as new as yours but on my 96 the resistor is located inside the cab on the side of the hvac box right at bottom of dash. My air doors are controlled by a multi position cylinder it doesn't have any gears, though yours may be different. Hopefully someone that may be more helpful will chime in shortly.

Yeah my Star is like that too. Piston type door. From what I understand, this KW is a plastic box with little plastic gears inside. And it costs $165 from the dealer for something that looks like $5 worth of plastic parts. Unfortunately, living up here in Canada...kinda need defrost on the windshield. Lol

Not sure where they are at. But think you are on the right track. Probably can google it or call a kw mechanic. Sure someone on here will know. My pete the resistor and actuator in dash on heater box. 3 actuators. Separate one for cold heat blend, another for blend of floor vents and defrost and another for fresh or re-circulation of cab air.

Yeah I'm hoping its the resistor but I've got a spare fan motor and cages as well that I bought last winter when it was acting strange. But I don't want to have to open up the box where the fan motor is (if i can avoid it) because there's a couple AC lines right in front of the panel.

Know what you mean. I cleaned the resistor up very gently with a small nylon brush. Had some rust on it. Then pulled the fan and blew it out and oiled it. Fans last quite well. On my 379 had to pull out glove box and part of the dash. After getting that out of the way it wasn't to bad. Mine is a 2001.

Doesn't have a resistor, has linear power module. Located below glove box. HVAC mode motor is located to right of glove box. I have had to geartrain come out of time before. It usually takes some time getting it back in time!!! KIMG1077.JPG
