Before you apply for a waiver which could take a while, do an audiometric test in a booth. Far more accurate than a "forced whisper" test. You only have to be able to hear out of one ear. This test is complete BS. 99% of your driving is visual. I can talk on the phone and converse with most people, but had to buy a used hearing aid to pass. You can go to a 3rd party for your booth test. Shop around. They can be $35 to $95.

first of all, the only thing about a DOT hearing test is (and from what i go thru), the dr or nurse sateds behind you and whispers words like hot dog, pop corn, ice cream...a REAL hearing test is done at an ENT office audiologist...if the DOT dr, refuses you on HIS test quack test, go see an audiologist, get your hearing test documented, take that with you to your DOT exam, and you should pass....

not too may DOT quacks will dispute a specialists testing.....

The place doing the testing for your medical. Some have their own hearing booths. Just ask. They will allow you to bring in results from an authorized hearing center though, or should. Dont use a chiropractor. Go to a real doctor.

    Yes I do, thanks ...

Seriously that's good that they will do that but honestly the test is someone whispering from across the room.

I have a serious hearing issue, I have pitch perfect hearing but when it comes to speech, I have a hard time hearing the person. BUT that said, I never ever had an issue with a DOT hearing test.

Go ahead and take your scheduled test. I also have hearing loss and a VA provided hearing aid. I have never had to use it for my DOT test. On the DOT medical form you will have to disclose any medical issues including hearing loss. I also let the examiner know I have hearing loss. The test is not that intensive. They will speak to you in a "forced whisper." I think you should be fine.
