I'm currently in Schneider's pre-hire process, I'm doing my CDL training right now. My wife is concerned about the coverages provided by Schneider's health insurance carrier.

I understand that it's United Healthcare, and I haven't approached my recruiter about this yet for fear that I'll come across like I'm going to rip them off for health coverage or something. I realize that there's a 90 day wait for new drivers and 60 days for experienced drivers.

So to anyone who has access to Schneider's benefits book, which should be located either in the human resources website or as a part of myuhc.com, could someone tell me if Schneider's plan covers sleep apnea treatment and bariatric surgery? It's my understanding that these coverages are sometimes not included with an overall health plan and have to be something that the employer has to add on separately.

Thank you very much to anyone willing to help.

Ask your recruiter! Health insurance is part of the compensation package. I can tell you that the most likely cover sleep apnea treatments, but not bariatric surgery. But don't take my word, ask the recruiter. They will probably refer you to the provider to answer your questions. I'm coming to Schneider as an O/O, so I don't know their company driver benefits program. I don't think the recruiter would think less of you for asking, might even think better of you because you are thinking about more than just a paycheck and thinking long term in regard to your family. Just my useless opinion. :biggrin_25523:

First off; why would you even so much as entertain the thought that they might think that you may be trying to "rip them off"?
Stop being so "job scared". With this kind of fearful attitude, you will be nothing but a victim to anybody and everybody, while simultaneously permitting these employers to cheat you any way that they can and lowering the bar for the rest of us.

The health plan is there for you to use if, Gawd forbid, you (or your partner) actually need it.
And last but not least; YOU are paying for most of it, not Schneider.

Schneiders' health plan works basically like this:
You and your spouse will have an (I believe) $3700 deductible, of which Schneider will pay the first $1850.00 (provided that both you and your spouse do not smoke or chew; and yes, they do check).
Then you pay an additional $1850.00 out of your pocket after that.
After this combined total of $3700.00 is paid, then your out of pocket expenses will be 20%, and United Healthcare pays the other 80%. You will continue to always pay 20% until you have paid out of pocket $10,000. Then the health plan covers 100%.

As of recent changes to the insurance coverage laws, it is no longer legal for insurance companies to refuse coverage due to pre-existing conditions. Bariatric surgery coverage would probably not be an issue. Sleep apnea is a huge issue (and moneymaker) with Schneider. They have "partnered" with a CPAP company to get you a machine as quickly and as easily as possible. Schneider gets a not so little kickback out of the deal, BTW. And you will pay for it in tidy little installments out of your weekly pay until the balance is covered. Just hope that there's enough left over to pay for your personal expenses.

The cost (above and beyond your out of pocket expenses) to keep medical insurance for yourself and a spouse will cost you, out of your paycheck, about $100.00 per week, or about $400.00. per month.

Not cheap and might even amount to a full week's pay or more but sure beats the nearly cost free medical care of socialism.

It doesn't cover weight lose stuff. Its still considered a cosmetic thing. They have a outfit in Houston who will send you Cpap supplies every quarter all using your insurance.

Regarding the surgery; did not know that it was still considered cosmetic.
The CPAP machine, however, is purchased by the driver (through Schneider) and billed back to him through his weekly pay.

This isn't true. As part of the insurance plan, Schneider pays for the CPAP machine and sends supplies to you quarterly. However, I'm not sure the exact date (think it's 2 years), if you leave before the 2 year period they will charge you a prorated amount for the value of the CPAP machine. If you stay 2 years the CPAP machine is yours with no charge.

year. after a year its yours. Until ins kicks in they will provide a loaner machine set to your pressure. Plan also covers a yearly sleep study paid 100% by ins. Supplies will show up like clockwork every 6 months. initially you'll have to submit data monthly. before long(at least for me anyway) they said yearly just prior to med card renewal was sufficient. I am always above 96% compliance is why.

That surgery would have to be dealt with via the doctor and ins. Compelling need would come to mind for coverage . but I really cant say one way or another.

SNI is a leader far and away in how its treats drivers with Apnea. Improvements to the program(in diagnosing or refering for study . IMO) could be made for sure but no other company makes it as easy for a driver as SNI.

Six month supply. Very costly. Should just put what I don't use on eBay. Also I've never been charged for the machine except what is billed to insurance. If it wasn't for email alerts I would never now I was being charged. uploadfromtaptalk1420408005936.jpg
