Headed to CT from south, I-95 or I-287 around NYC?

I headed to just north of New Haven, CT from TN with HazMat. When I get near NYC my options seem to be take I-95 and cross GW or swing around NYC via I-287 that reconnects to I-95 near CT border.

I checked & GW allows HazMat on upper deck. Boss is paying tolls, so I don't care about those but the easier the route the better I like it. I'm pulling 48ft tanker. What's route would you pick if you are familiar with those routes?

What time will you be headed north thru the area? That’ll really make the decision easier.

Just know that the GWB toll is over $100.

If you can get up across the GWB before noon I'd just go that way. Traffic will be moderate but usually moving well enough to get through and up into CT before it gets real bad. You should be able to get into the Pilot or one of the service plazas near to New Haven in the afternoon when theres still parking.

i always go 287 over the tappan zee, its way to congested for me around the gw, doesnt matter time of day to me, and the cross bronx is rough and gets greasy when its wet, i avoid the gw, and pulling a tanker thru there doesnt sound fun to me, also the tappan z doesnt have anymore toll booths so no stopping, another reason the gw gets congested, unless they got rid of them, i wouldnt kno, like i said i avoid that stretch if possible.

there is construction getting on 95 from 287 if you go that way be carefull around that part

I would take the Tappan Zee Bridge , no matter what time of day or.night, even if it meant adding sixty miles to the trip.

Holy $@%# is this true?! I’ve been rightfully accused before of not being able to pick up sarcasm in text, this may be another case...

Jeez that’s insane! I’m in the wrong business, I’m going to open my own toll bridge. I’ll start a new forum called thebridgersreport. You’re all invited!

Thanks. It's nice to be persuaded to do what you wanted to do. I'll take 287 over to 95.
    I appreciate the advice.
