i searched in the search bar but couldnt find what i was looking for. and i dont know if this is in the right section either.
couple of questions here:
my work bought a new 2012 W900L day cab that i will be driving. i ordered a Pro-Tech headache rack for it (10-1003-592 from their website) and i will be installing it with our mechanic. before i put it on is there anything i have to look out for that might surprise us in the mounting? i think it should be pretty straight forward but still wanted to ask. anybody else use this rack?
also, i bought a light bar to mount on it since we drop a lot of material/equipment on the roadway in construction zones. i know there is a auxiliary lighting switch in the cab so is it best to wire it to there or save that for work lights instead. and just buy a switch box for the light bar.

VisionLogistics Thanks this.

Did you buy a universal mounting kit w/ the rack? Make sure you put either a piece of rubber mat or plastic gasket between the aluminum rack and frame rail, otherwise they will corrode.
My trucks have individual switches for the utility lights and the strobe inside the cab. If you can have a switch for each, that is the most convenient.
Is the Aux. Light switch already wired to the utility lights or do you have to install those too? -
The headache rack will normally be installed with the U bolts that may come with it.
Just be sure to run some rubber matting between the rack and the frame.
I use a rocker switch that is illuminated for my strobes, but had no other switches available neither. Run the strobes from either one you choose, not a lot of difference IMHO.

If you decide to put another switch in just make sure you put an inline fuse in the wire before the switch. There are to many people that don't do this and end up burning equipment to the ground.

i got the mounting kit and i will have rubber to put between the rack and the frame. i just looked and the lightbar comes with a switch box. i guess my main question on that was if anybody knew of a harness laying around somewhere in the rear of the cab that links to that aux. light switch, making an easy tap in for work lights that get mounted on the rack.

When I order trucks you have to specify if and where you want the lead run to. I spec mine to come out of the top left corner of the back of the cab.

There is literally 2 wires hanging out of the back of the cab with maybe 18 inches of wire coiled up. I would assume you have some sort of lead tied up under the back corner of the cab if you have the switch.
If not, it is easy to run your wires through the firewall and under the cab to the frame. Then take them back to the headache rack and run them up the back side of the rack. Out of sight and mind, plus you don't have to mount them to the cab then. -
ok sounds good. i will check the back corners of the cab for a lead and if not just run the wires.
the rack and light will be in this week. maybe i will take some pictures of it during and after.
oh btw, anybody using LED worklights?
