Hazmat with Permit? Florida

    Anyone in Florida who can actually give me a clear answer to the following....Can I get the HAZMAT Endorsement and start the process with my permit? I already have Tankers and I am going in on Friday to take Doubles/Triples and HAZMAT, want to make sure I don't leave early from work just to be told I have to wait for my license.

    Florida has a background check for the HAZMAT. DMV says it takes 2 -3 weeks.

    Don't know but I can tell you that I already have a License and took my Hazmat test on 7/21 and am still waiting on TSA to complete the background check.

    Go back to DMV and let them know. At least you will get an answer. The FBI conducts the background, not the TSA. If it's a TWIC then yes TSA does it. Unless it has changed in the last 3 months.

    I talked to the DMV Monday and they told me specifically that I had to contact TSA. I did by e-mail today and the TSA emailed me back saying they forwarded my request to the appropriate people. On the TSA website it has an option for those checking on their Hazmat Endorsement Application.

    Ok, so does anyone know if I can or cannot go to the DMV and get my HAZMAT Endorsement with a permit in Florida?

    It will take several weeks to complete the process. Will you have your CDL by then? I don't know for sure if you can apply with a permit. Call the DMV.

    I don't know about Florida. I am in Indiana and have applied and received my hazmat with only a permit.

    I would think you could get Hazmat with a permit. I don't know of any endorsements you can't get.
