Yes, if it’s liquid IIRC.
6.1 material often does the “inhalation hazard” label thrown on it if it’s a solid of some sort.

6.1 Poison
6.2 Infectious substance
Never dealt with 6.2 so don't much about it.
6.1 is poison liquid or solid. Gas falls under 2.3.
The placarding is still any Inhalation Hazard requires placard, 6.1 non inhalation 1001 lbs.
As for placarding , they do not have a 6.1 or 6.2 on the bottom. Just a 6. Make sure the wording is correct. The word POISON does not work for Inhalation Hazard. Or does Inhalation Hazard work for just POISON.
Any hazmat you carry will be listed in your RED hazmat book.tscottme Thanks this. -
Contact DOT and/or your safety guru in writing. If they are wrong, at least you have documentation to fight with. No one person knows everything about anything. CYA my friend.
tscottme, RockinChair, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this. -
Remember, the shipper is supposed to supply the placards necessary...but you still have to know he's supplying the correct placards, so the end result is that the responsibility is yours to ensure the load is being properly handled. This is why Hazmat drivers expect to be paid more. They, like heavy haul, have to assume more responsibility than a wheel holder. Learn your craft so you can answer these questions yourself.Last edited: Jun 17, 2023
RockinChair Thanks this. -
Poisonous material (Division 6.1) means a material, other than a gas, which is known to be so toxic to humans as to afford a hazard to health during transportation, or which, in the absence of adequate data on human toxicity:
PIH [Poison Inhallation Hazard] is it's own placard but not all 6.1 toxics are PIH.
Unless the product description includes the words 'Inhallation Hazard' you are not required to placard 6.1 under 1000# and even as a secondary hazard the PIH requires placarding at 1# -
