Still have my class "A" license but no one seems to want to hire me because I don't have recent experience,or for that matter over the road. My 2 1/2 years of driving tractor/trailer was all local. Will any one hire me without having to pay for a full blown school. Ive called quite a few co. and they say I need anywhere from 3 months to 1 year over the road. Will anyone train me for a few weeks for free. Any help would be appreciated.

you might look into a refresher course. Not so expensive as a full blown A to B school, and should open some doors for you.

In today's market, extended periods of not driving (measured in years) equates out to zero expereience

either inexperience - or some companies view it as a risk ...

many times they do not care for the details or reasons - they just want to see solid work history.

I doubt it is the companies themselves......... probably their INSURANCE company.......

Have you tried the larger carriers that are self-insured?
