I got my CDL for the company I'm driving for now which runs hotshots to deliver there car trailers that they manufacture. Now they are moving to bigger trucks that will have air breaks. Do I really have to take that entire test again? If so I will just find something else to do at this point. I didn't have credit to Finance CDL training school in God knows I wasn't going to sign my life away with a company like Swift. I'm 41 and have a family including g one in collage. I could not even find anyone when I got my permit to ride with them on a trip and even pay them to allow me to ride to get some seat time.
Have CDL but now need air break endorsement.

Contact the DMV and ask. Tell them you already have a CDL, but want to add the air brake test. Maybe it's just a simple process.

There is no air brake endorsement. Do you mean that you have an air brake restriction?
I believe that you will need to take the full test again, in a vehicle with air brakes. -
Schneider pays for refresher course; maybe that will get the job done. Hire on with their tanker division and make decent money & probably "take home" over a thousand a week.
Gonzo1300 Thanks this. -
You will have to take a road test in a vehicle that you are going to be driving with your license - what I mean is if you take a road test it has to be in a truck with a trailer that is rated over 26,001 lbs gvw and the trailer I think has to be over 10k gvw - all having air brakes.

You will need to retake the test in a full blooded big truck at least 26001 GCVW and airbrakes.
There is no air brake endorsement, but there is a air brake restriction against those who tested in vehicles without airbrakes.
The reason we have air brakes in larger vehicles is simple physics, Hydraulic fluid will burn very easily operating at the temperatures big trucks brake at. And liquid or vacumn braking could not hope to apply the same force to the wheel.
Also make sure that new vehicle you retake the test in has a manual. That way you are not slapped with a auto restriction which will limit your hireability.Gonzo1300 Thanks this. -
Okay thanks guys for the quick replies. Just seems to be something all the time with this driving stuff. I'm 3rd generation. I was doing heating and air since I got out of school but got hurt so I went to driving and really enjoyed it my family tried to keep me from doing it because of the family life and being gone all the time that's the reason that I kind of like this hot-shot gig. The trucks they're going to is the Little M twos and they're automatics so I guess that kind of squashes the idea of using a company truck to do it. I really had thought about Snyder for a while with their choice program and getting a truck through them a truck through them. Honestly I don't mind being on the road 4 or 5 days but that deal that 99.9% of these companies want you to do or you're gone for 7 Days earned you 24 hours if you're lucky at home I simply can't do that. Well maybe I can talk them into keeping one of these trucks and just rebuild refit or just simply get another gooseneck roughly 45 foot would do close to the same as what they're wanting to do anyway. Even if I found to pay them for their truck and they're time to go two hours down the road to take the test I've never driven a Class 8 truck well legally. I do not know what 80% of the parts of a truck for inspection and stuff like yet just to go down there one day first time I'm in deceit and pass the test. Well back to the old drawing board

Do you have any info as far as the company doing the lease program with their choice load program together? There's a bunch of stuff that I can find on here and other places but again they pay people to recruit so, well you know how that goes
-
Why?
You need to start with a company that will get you road experience, not sink your life into the abyss.ChaoSS Thanks this. -
You may have to take a 30 minute break from time to time, but you should know how to use the air brake.
