I still do not think this is a good idea. D- rings do not look that substantial and do not believe they will hold if large amount of force was applied. Additionally, how heavy are the special vans compared to a regular dry van. Appears to be a specilalized trailer that can haul a light load of coils and a light load of dry freight, but I don't have any experience as a door swinger.

I used to pick up skided ciols in a van but didnt really like it to much. I saw a few van trailers though that had the pop up chains through the floor like a flat bed. They would block them in plus throw straps or chains over them. This was 10 years ago so this isnt anything new.

That would be the only way I'd haul a coil in a van was if it had the pop-up chain tiedowns!!!

When I ran step deck it had those pop up chains, ever since then I havent had a trailer with them, I really liked them especially since my loads were usually a big cluster with alot of smaller peices...

We bought 3 repo vans to resell a few years ago and one had chain ties and the other 2 had D rings. It's not that they aren't an option, it's just companies go for cheap and don't spec them. I still don't see why a "J" track couldn't be an option like most flats come with now.

A lot of the steel loads I haul have in the confirmation notes "no unsecured vans"!
