What's the catch with these jobs?
$23/hr @45 +hours per week.
Looks like the job near would have 2 nights/ week in the sleeper.
Other than driving the same route everyday, I can't see a disadvantage to doing this type of trucking.
Right now, I'm local 100% driver unload 12-14 hours/ day.
Anyone do mail?

I don't haul mail, but I am pretty positive that you are paid federal prevailing wage based on the routes you are traveling.but remember rain nor snow nor dark of night the mail must go through.
QuietStorm, passingthru69 and Driver0000 Thank this. -
I was about to, but it was night shift around 28/hr, pushing 11 hours each day. Commute was kinda far for me
Driver0000 Thanks this. -
The down side is a lot of holiday work if a holiday falls on the day you work you work it.benefits are usually expensive. Not a bad job tho.
QuietStorm and Driver0000 Thank this. -
Also looks like you can't take vacation November or December.Randy O Thanks this. -
Those mail contractors have to be on the up and up as far as pay, required health insurance, and everything else the federal government says an employee should have

Among about a hundred jobs that I have had over a 54 year career in the trucking industry, hauling mail is one of the best. I drove for a contractor who had several trucks contracted to haul the mail. I was paid a good hourly wage, which is set by the government, paid for holidays, paid for breakdowns. The only drawback that I found is that all mail does not run 7 days a week. Matter of fact, very little does.
Mail is not picked up on Sundays or holidays, so say you leave point A going to point B and you usually arrive at point A around 10pm and leave around 8am the next morning, you go up on Sunday, you are going to lay over until Tue. morning because there was no mail picked up on Sundays.
If a holiday falls on Monday, then you have an extra layover day.
Am I clear on this?RubyEagle, TGUNKEL, canviskiller and 1 other person Thank this. -
Mail carriers here in Phoenix work seven days a week but not everybody works every day. on Sundays they do Amazon deliveries.
My next-door neighbor is a mail carrier and she said that's how her post office does it. -
I work for USPS and hauling mail is a 24/7, 7 day a week operation. It never stops. Even in state of emergency, we are still required to show up. Even your local letter carriers work 7 days a week now.
I work with contract carriers on a daily basis and they also work 24/7 days a week. The ones I talk to are Local HCR drivers who bump the same docks every day or night. They make really good money. Most of them deny health coverage and go with their spouses benefits so they can get the additional $5 an hour, which brings them up to about $27. Some of them make over $75k +. A Finkle driver mentioned he made $90k. Easy work, but Local HCR drivers are required to unload their own freight. But even then, it's on wheels, so you just push your freight off, nothing strenuous.Dan.S, rabbiporkchop, 6wheeler and 1 other person Thank this.
