    DH,

A company-paid option may be up your ally. Not sure how you feel about a commitment with a company. Like stated, Prime, Swift, Roehl and others offer good training

Ever heard of train-2-hire, a site that sets you up with a carrier before you start school and pays your tuition and all as you go. Thanks.

Toro= you pay for what you get. The instructors don't teach you, you pretty much sit in the truck 15 minutes at a time......teaching yourself...and your out. Your learning on a dirt lot thats unleveled and on equipment that is old, crappy, and beat. I'm not joking. It took me 2 months to get thru and finish and get my class A. BUT: The good thing, I learned all the skills and street driving and passed first try at the DMV when they made my appointment. If you expect the instructors to force you to learn, you picked the wrong school. You got to be disciplined, learn your inspections, and your other skills by yourself. Funny how people here pay $3000 for a top notch school but your still getting the same license. Yeah you drive better equipment and full size van BUT, when you get hired onto a big truck company, your going to have learn their ways of driving their equipment. Hope this helps out.

In that case, sign up for cr-England, get crappy training and then get slapped with a $6k tab

Rebuttal: According the the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration 92% of semi-truck crashes involve entry-level drivers. Toro, and schools like Toro, are dangerous, and the defending of getting "the same license" is a very very poor argument. First off, YOU ARE PAYING FOR TRAINING, NOT THE LICENSE. Second, as I looked at City Search and Google reviews of the school, the above comment sounds just like the few comments that are positive, and most likely the "selling" point of that school. Furthermore, going to schools like Toro leaves drivers in the dark about new FMCSA & DOT regulations that affect CDL drivers, but you don't care about that right...you got your license for $1,000. Well, when you lose your license because "you didn't know" not to do this or that, I hope you remember Toro...$3,000 is a bargain for a good school and those who have attended the $6-10,000 school know this. Simply stated, those who read this post, stay away from Toro's and the like....very deceptive and dangerous.

LOL which is why when I got hired to Schneider, they told us to FORGET what our schools have trained us, and RE-TRAINED us the WAY they wanted us to drive their trucks, back up, up shift- down shift, and DOT regulations both with paper and electronic logs. Yeah, I payed a $1000 for my training but funny how I passed the Schneider training and not the guy's (about 4 of them) who payed $3000-4000 for their training. $3000 school is fine, and like I said on my previous post, YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET. Obviously you didn't read that part.
