I have a tri axle dump that is very hard to steer at slow speeds when loaded. If I’m at a dead stop I can’t get it to turn. Even with all my might. Help?

Does it get easier if you bring the RPMs up?

Check all front end components and make sure everything is free and moves lock to lock by hand while jacked up.
From there pressure and flow check the pump dead head.
Something is frozen or you have a weak pump. These are the 2 most likely issues.Dino soar, AModelCat and spsauerland Thank this. -
Sounds like you have either lost the pump or the steering box is in bypass......either way you have no assist. This is one time you might want to take it to a mechanic and have them verify pump pressure as this could get a bit spendy if you just start throwing parts at it.
Keep in mind i'm also assuming you trucks front end is mechanically sound and you have at least verified front tire pressure to be correct. -
Eat your Wheaties!!!!!
Jokes aside, the above advice is spot on. Get it tested. -
Sheesh at one time Power Steering was an option, not the standard....that's why the older trucks had a BIG steering wheel....lol.

Tire pressures are good. They are floaters. It turns okay unloaded, stopped. And bringing the RPMs up does not change anything.

Ill still say no assist or you've got a rear leveling valve that's putting all the load forward by adjusting to high.
RepoweredRookie Thanks this.
