Been using the Hammer GPS app to plan my drive time and possible breaks. Overall I like it.
When planning a route sometimes I see something like "23ft long segment of steep descent 8" what does that mean? Is there a way to translate to the more common X% grade for next blank miles?

I found the answer. 8 inch descent in 23 feet is 2.8986% descent, 1.6603 degrees
Elevation Grade Calculator
Here's an online calculator. You'll need to change the units of Vertical Distance "Rise" to inches and Horizontal Distance "Run" to feet.Last edited: Feb 10, 2025

Although we still don't know how long that descent will be. Half mile? Several?
Why can't Hammer just show the data as the signs do for clarity ? -
Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this to our attention. Our team has been actively looking into this issue. While we aim to provide as much detailed information as possible to help with route planning, our top priority is ensuring that the information we provide is accurate and reliable for truck drivers.
Currently, we’re unable to obtain 100% accurate slope grades from our data providers. Because of this, we’ve decided to keep the steep descent warnings in place but will stop displaying specific percentage grades unless we’re absolutely certain the data is correct. We appreciate your understanding and will continue working on improvements to make the app more helpful and precise.RollinChaos Thanks this.
