Be leery about this company. They reached out to me numerous times before I could call them back. RUDE! Recruiting, Safety, & Customer Service were all rude to me through words spoken or simply hanging up on me. Remember when they reach out to you. The pay is laughable also. When a company that is new reaches out to an experienced driver that has more years in the industry than they do, the way to conduct ones self should be appropriate. This is solely my experience and sharing with you. Base your own opinions.

They just wanted you to come work for them! Lol. That's why they kept calling. I knew some guys that really liked working there. Both of them live in Murfreesboro, TN and got good home time. They have nice looking equipment.
So what type of pay were they talking about? My curiosity looms........TB John, NN Trucker and Lonesome Thank this. -
Oxbow Thanks this.

From what I've heard about them get ready for driver facing cams, plentiful nanny devices, and micro mgt.

Yea, I might back up the OP in saying to avoid this company. It was them that I worked for when I was shot 6 times on their drop yard in an armed robbery. They then proceeded to steal everything out of my truck while I was in rehab after telling my father they would keep everything in the truck and it would all be just like I left it when I came back. Reason they gave? That they didn't know I would be in rehab 8 months. I asked why they never called us back to give us a chance to empty the truck which my dad would have happily done for me. (I couldn't do it, I was wheelchair bound for months after this as I was shot in the right leg twice, and both arms) They never could answer that question. They promised me the world after my almost fatal injury and then lied about everything.
They don't just have driver facing cams, they have the DFC mounted to the dash DIRECTLY in front of the driver so you're literally staring down the lens of the camera. They are VERY sensitive and will call you about stupid stuff. I was sitting at a stop light one time and saw a 4 wheeler do something stupid. I momentarily closed my eyes and shook my head in disbelief at what they did, and the camera lights up like a xmas tree and the display shows "fatigue! fatigue!" I get a call from safety not long after that asking if I was too tired to drive.
They micromanage their drivers. The problem is they hired a dunce that was fired from Covenant named Andy VanZandt. Before hiring him, it was a pretty decent company. Not much if any micro management, you could fuel where you wanted, etc. After him, he was the KING of micro management. They started using fuel solution software and then decided to BAN YOU from fueling in half of the states in the nation. For a long time, you couldn't fuel north of TN yet they wanted you to deliver into NJ. The problem with that is, all the new trucks they buy have the smallest tanks on them possible so the range is not there. You have to call in, in all these banned states, ONLY once you are at the fuel island, and try to convince your dispatcher you need him to do an override to fuel where you are. They will argue with you, ask you why you didn't fuel at XYZ station a while back, etc etc.
The maintenance there is ok, but not adequately staffed so you get there, even with a simple problem, and you will have to wait. I had to wait 6 hours to get a headlight changed. And this was after once an hour going check and being told "you're next in line to be fixed." And that was only after raising a stink that wound up one of the mechanics lied and said I got in his face and cursed him out. No, I casually walked up to him and told him waiting 6 hours to change a headlight was ridiculous. I told them to watch the stupid camera they have in the shop, there was no yelling or cursing. They did, they later apologized and told the mechanic to change his headlight immediately. Within 10 minutes, it was changed and I was on my way. A side note, BOTH mechanics that lied and said I got in their faces were either fired or quit within a month of this incident.
There is literally not much good I have to say about this company. They promised me, after I was shot and almost killed on their yard, that they would secure up the main yard and have a guard on duty 24 hours a day. That didn't happen, NOTHING happened. Nothing changed. They promised me that due to my PTSD they wouldn't make me come back to the main yard to swap trailers, they would have another driver bring it to a local truck stop and we would do it there. That never happened. I was at the main yard more AFTER being shot than before. One time I had to go in there and drop a trailer and the only open spot was the spot where I was shot. I almost vomited trying to complete the drop.
I wholeheartedly encourage EVERYONE to avoid Gulf Relay. This is the first time since the shooting that I have disclosed on this forum the name of the company I was driving for when it happened.Last edited: Oct 16, 2024
