Hi folks, in the market for a grill guard for a 98' Freightliner Century. (Starting to run a lot of Maine where the moose run rampant!)
    Any recommendations out there?
I LOVE the Herd and similar that are made into the bumper, however $3,500.00 is a bit much!
I have seen one called Ex-Guard that looked nice. The one that goes around the headlights to is in the $1,400.00 range!
    Thanks in advance!
    Jack

Just buy a hood for a '98 if you're worried.

one thing to keep in mind, you put an aftermarket bumper on and hit a moose. it saves your hood radiator grill ect but bends the bumper. insurance company pays to replace with a stock bumper. your out money

you dont have anything on your truck but the stock bumper you hit a moose it takes out your hood bumper grill radiator air to air and ac condenser. insurance company pays to replace everything and you get a new radiator ect.

this is what the last company told me anyway when they got some new trucks in and said they wern't going to be putting ali arc's on them like the rest of the fleet

Yeah but gee what a PITA it is hitting a big moose or even just a decent size deer out in the middle of nowhere late at night! If ya getting a moose bumper get a big heavy duty one that's going to do the job not a "pretty" looking piece of tubular stainless steel that won't do jack squat! I've got a mack daddy moose bumper and honestly when I see deer on the side of the road I don't even slow down, my moose bar will cream that little sob and on I will go. Now a bison( especially watch for them in parts of Montana) or a moose(see lots in northern Ontario) I WILL slow for as these will do boocoo damage if hit at speed even with a big Herd "Road Train" bumper!

Must depend on the insurance company, a friend of mine's insurance company replaced his Ali-Arc after hitting 9 deer (not at one time) and he found someone that wants to buy his old one and fix it up.

Those are deer bumpers, not moose bumpers. Your truck will probably be a writeoff if you hit a moose even with one of those things.
