Went to service the truck today and when I pulled the drain plug out of the oil pan the freakin pan threads just happened to come out with them. On a Sunday. 3406E. Any suggestions. Need a place to start in the morning looking for.......parts?

I think you can purchase an oversized self tapping replacement plug or maybe an insert. Take old plug with you, try NAPA or car quest.

I've helicoiled them before with success. But the best way is to remove sump and get a spud machined with the correct thread and weld it in.

Cat sdp and TGUNKEL Thank this.

The main reason for this is over tightening the drain plug when reinstalling. It is surprising the number of people who over tighten drain plugs and filters for fear of falling off. It is understandable, but everything has a torque spec, or tightening sequence. Cat drain plugs are only 50 foot pounds. Since the plug takes a 1 1/2" monster wrench or socket it is very easy to over tighten them when reinstalling. Use a torque wrench, no worries!

Be thankfull that the plug is out. The threads pulled on one of my tractors last summer and now the plug turns but won't come out. Fortunately, it doesn't leak But still haven't figured out how to get the #### thing out. I tried pulling VERY hard with vicegrips while turning hoping the threads inside the pan would catch but no go and removing the pan isn't really an option. In your case, I would tap t the next size and put a femco plug in it. I have femco's on all my trucks and wouldn't be without one.

Just one of several reasons I always change my own oil.

Trying to avoid that. It would be quite messy and once I'm through, I'm committed. Going past the point of no return makes me nervous when I'm doing something I have no experience in. Been trying to find something that will pump the oil out of the dipstick tube, I thought they made something like that for marine use but the tube is AWFULLY small.

Don't you have a second plug on the other side? My C 15 has 2, lucky for that, the driver side one is stripped (corners that is).
