I have a 2001 Great Dane dry van. I need to replace the shocks because they’re leaking. So my question is this what shocks do I need and do I need to supply air to the trailer while changing them??

I need new shock absorbers because mine are starting to leak. My question is will any shock absorber due the trick or do I need specific ones? Also does the trailer need to be supplied with air to change them or can I do it with the truck off?

What air ride suspension do you have, will determine what shocks you need?

Post the slider suspension manufacturer and I can find the correct shock part number.

No, you do not need to supply air to the trailer while changing them, but it’s easier to change them while the air springs are inflated, as it’ll give you more room to work underneath the trailer.

Also I would recommend spraying the exposed shock bolt threads with PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench at least a couple of times a day for at least a week before you attempt to loosen the nuts, as they’ll will be super tight.

To identify the suspension manufacturer you’ll need to look for a metal plate attached to the slider assembly that has the Make and Model of the slider assembly.

You can also look for the part number of the shock, it should be stamped on the lower half of the shock tube.

By finding the part number, it can be cross referenced it to another manufacturer.

Different manufacturers use different size shocks, so having a picture of the shock can’t help me determine the proper replacement shock.

The left rear side of the outside trailer wall by the rear tandem may also have decals with instructions on how to use the slider, that can be another clue on who the manufacturer is.

Pictures are great, but the shocks look like the ones that were on it when it was bought new? Any truck parts store like Truck pro. should have shocks in in stock!

Probably I just bought the trailer, I’ve already replaced slack adjusters, brakes, and one brake chamber. I got underneath it once I noticed the leak and seen the one opposite is completely broken shock absorber, so it’s gotta be done this week.

I just looked on Great Danes website the only suspension diagram is for Holland and it looks like they recommend Hendrickson shocks. Does that seem right ?

It looks like you have a Holland Binkley Airlite 2 suspension.

XB-SPN-053-36 is the Holland part number

Gabriel Fleet Line 83125 is an alternate part number. They’re $40.79 each at www.rockauto.com

Monroe 66884 is another alternate part number.
    $42.79 at rockauto.
