So how many of the O/O here grease their own trucks? Or pay someone to do it?

I hate doing this....I try to grease every 5000 miles or as soon as the PTO starts to make a "rattling" noise when I turn on the blower. I try to do everything else to the truck that I'm able to. A lot cheaper but I've never been a fan of greasing. Freakin' hate it.

Kinda curious if shops at like TA's or other trucks stops are good places to pay someone to grease the truck?

I take my truck to Speed-Co for oil changes. I change my oil enery 10 to 12,000 miles. I grease my truck around 5,000 miles. I do it myself in-between my oil changes. Greasing the truck myself insures that some of the fittings are not getting misses by Speed-Co. IF you grease the truck youself it is a good way to find problems with your truck.

Greasing your truck is not glamourous. It will help you find potiential problems that the ordinary greaser at the truck stop my not notice.

C'mon guy, greasing your truck is not the worst thing in the world. I would MUCH rather grease it myself than pay someone. I throw on my coverall's find a nice empty paved parking lot near home and do it there. I don't like greasing in gravel because laying on it sucks but its nice on pavement just crawl around and do your thing, 15 minutes and your done.

While I no longer do alot of the service work etc--I used to do--can't imagine traveling without a grease gun--actually I think most trucks aren't greased enough--I know it is kind of old school--with today's better fittings-lubes etc--but it is simple quick and easy--especially depending on the kind of places you run--dirt-dust gravel--etc--even thought I only have one truck/trailer and am the only one(mostly)who drivers it--I still do a pretty ridig inspection daily--may not always be a pre-trip but I do it--I also never get out with a quick look around--so try this--carry a small grease gun--and everyday whenever you do your full blown check--take it along with your pressure gauge--as you stick your steers--hit those fittings-as you get under truck/trailer to check brakes--hit those--etc etc--b4 long long it is just habit--and you won't even think about it--course the external fittings on my Pete do make it nicer
    Just my $.02:biggrin_25519:

Grease my truck about every 6000 miles half way between oil changes. It takes 15 minutes. I refuse to pay a shop for somthing i can do myself plus i get a chance to look over the whole truck to find other issues that might need fixing.

I use to go to Speedco but it has gotten to expensive so the last couple of years I just do everything myself. Plus I get all the grease zerts and no how much grease to put in. The last time I paid Speedco I ended up with more grease on other parts then where they were intended to go.

Not to mention some lube shops MISS some grease fittings that are harder to get to or a newby doesnt know where to look due to many different trucks have them other places that they dont know. I do my own greasing and yes I dont like it but it part of YOUR business, and also gives you a chance to look over your truck to see if anything else wrong. Don't forget to push on the driveline to check if it loose, most lube shops don't do that.

I'm like you, I despise greasing my truck but I do do it myself. My Pete has 840k miles and has never been greased by anyone but me.
I have a Lincoln battery operated grease gun that makes it soooo much easier.

The thing is I don't own this truck. I drive it for a guy and we lease on to Dahlsten. I try to do all the maintenance just to save the guy money. It's my free time spent working on someone else's truck. Granted, if it's not moving, I'm outta money, too. So I do all I can to keep things up on it as he lives in a different state.

I am hoping in the next 18-24 months I'll be able to own my own truck and figure this is good experience in the O/O department. I understand the benefits of greasing your own truck....but getting under this T2000 sucks. lmao I had just finished greasing it when I made this original post....so the frustration was still fresh. lol
