    Hello all,

I am a graduate student studying mechanical engineering. I'll be doing a research project on a Freightliner M2 106 tanker truck, but to make a CAD model I need accurate dimensions. After hours of googling, I've come up with nothing! I sent an email to the company, but I'm sure they'll say it's proprietary information.

So, if anyone has access to a tanker truck, could you provide me with the following measurements? Please also specify what make/model of truck you drive. A Freightliner M2 106 would be best, but I'm guessing they're all probably similar, so I'll take whatever I can get.

    - Wheel base
    - Wheel height (diameter; if you could specify the dimensions of the tire too, that would be great)
    - Cab length/height
    - Tank length/diameter/shape (I'll be doing an oval-shaped tank, but any measurements will help me get a ballpark)

I'll probably list more measurements as I start making the model and realize I'm missing things. If there's anything else you think I might need, don't hesitate to include it. Thank you all for your help!

I'd love to help you but I have a policy. I don't do anything involving trucks unless somebody pays me.

    I'll take Paypal.

I'm a poor graduate student. I can spare about $3.50.

If you can pick up a copy of "Truckpaper", you just may find a direction. Available at many truck stops if not gone for that printing and the copies are free. You can do a search for what you are looking for and it should point you to some examples.

Ha, I hear ya. I was just kidding. I don't drive that type of truck.

As GasHauler said, no two are the same. I think they are spec'd out based on what the customer wants. Polar makes tanks http://polartank.com/

    Good luck.

I guess your talking about a "peddle truck" like up to maybe a 5000k gallon tank....?

You might want to try these guys..... They make nice truck mounted tanks.......

I never considered that, I just assumed if you've seen one M2 106, you've seen them all. In that case, I guess it doesn't really matter exactly how precise my dimensions are if they vary from truck to truck.

Thanks for the link! I never thought about the wall thickness varying around the tank. I'm not sure what a "peddle truck" is (I've found it's just about impossible to google trucking lingo). Basically I looked at the TruckPaper website that 25(2)+2 (hah, I get it) mentioned and pulled up all the M2 106s. Most of the ads don't list any dimensions, but of the few that do, the tank capacity usually seems to be 2500-2800 gallons (like this one: http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=6062617).

General question: From what I've seen, it looks like the M2 106 is the "truck" part (IE the cab and flatbed part) and then you buy the tank and stick it on top (or whatever other type of storage device you want). Is that correct? Sorry for the noob questions, it's seriously hard to find relevant info online. I appreciate everyone's help!

Yes you buy a chassis and mount a tank on it...

A peddle truck is slang for a truck that does home deliveries of oil/fuel. Usually has a hose reel on the back of the tank...

P.S. I'd look for a new truck in the truck paper with the tank already mounted. Then have the dealer e-mail you the build sheet for both the chassis and the tank. And ask for the price.

Skip the part about being a student, let them think you want to buy a truck.
