So I got my new license in the mail today but I noticed it only shows the tanker ( "N" ) and triples / doubles ( "T" ) endorsements.

At the same time I also received TWO letters in the mail, one from Texas DPS dated 12/16 stating that I had been approved by TSA for "HME" and they would be sending my license in a separate letter, and the second letter actually from TSA dated 12/19 stating that I had met the requirements for "HME" and my issuing state would be notified.

I did all of this stuff really close together. Passed my skills / road test on Thursday - 12/5. Submitted my fingerprints for TWIC card on Friday - 12/6. Went to get my CDL license on Monday -12/9, went back and took all three endorsement tests on Tuesday -12/10. Went and submitted my fingerprints for hazmat background check on Weds - 12/11. Frankly I'm impressed that TSA and DPS turned this stuff around in about two weeks which is about 1/3 the time I was told it could take.

My question though is should I be expecting to receive another license card in the mail w/ the hazmat + tanker "X" endorsement in the next few weeks simply b/c the processing didn't keep up, OR should I call DPS and tell them my license has an error b/c of the missing endorsement and ask them to reissue my license showing the correct "X" endorsement? Also I've been starting to try and get interviews w/ tanker companies in the Houston area. The Terminal Managers I've talked to thus far have been keen to know that my license has the proper endorsements for hazmat + tanker. Is it okay for me to just show them the HME approval letters I've received from DPS & TSA and let them know I'll probably be getting another license card in the next few weeks showing the "X" endorsement, or should I just wait until I have that in hand which will probably be another couple of weeks I'd imagine? As you can probably tell I'm really anxious to get started!

    Thanks for any constructive advice!

You should be getting another one in the mail in the next few weeks. I would call them just to be on the safe side.

You got a lot of stuff done in a short amount of time with multiple governmental agencies. Therefore, it is going to take time for them to all communicate with each other and get on the same page.

Not mention Christmas and America's national drinking and hangover recovery day is looming just around the corner.

You might want to call Texas DPS on January 2nd for an update.

Best wishes in finding a lucrative trucking job.

That literally made me laugh out loud! We're having a traditional chili bowl / college football luncheon for our friends and family on New Years day. It's supposed to start at noon but most folks don't show up until around 2 p.m. LOL!

The DPS screwed up. If you took the tests for Doubles Triples and Tank at the same time, then both should have been on your license. What endorsements were listed on the temporary license they gave you after passing the endorsement tests?
I would go into the DPS office asap.

    That's actually a good question.

The temp paper license I had only showed tank and doubles at the time. I asked about the hazmat when they gave it to me and was told that the hazmat endorsement would only be added AFTER the background check passed TSA. I was told this by a supervisor b/c I wanted to make sure I had the story straight. What I was told was that essentially there's a back-and-forth that has to be coordinated between DPS and TSA. TSA has to clear you on the security side and then DPS has to confirm you passed the test and none of that can be set in motion until AFTER you have your actual CDL unlike the other endorsements that can be added to a CLP. At the time I was told there could be some delay in getting my license because all of my stuff is new and there could be some delay in coordinating everything in the system.

Apparently normally what happens when you add an endorsement they send you new license anyways so I'm thinking what happened here is the info from TSA didn't get processed in time or in an order that would have allowed everything to show all at once. It was likely off by a day or two coming back from TSA and my license showing tanker and doubles / triples was already printed and headed out the door. This is what makes me think I'll end up getting another card in a short time.

But yeah, I'll definitely be calling DPS today to see what's what?!

Is it possible in Texas to take the haz-mat test before being approved by TSA? Also, I would be careful with that first document. If Texas has issued another one that first one is now no good. Yes, go see somebody ASAP!

After reading your original post again, I think you will be ok. As soon as the DPS was notified by the TSA that you were ok, your updated license was put in the que. I would call to be sure but you should be fine.

Yeah, actually it has to be done in that order apparently: CD skills / road test > Acquire CDL-A > pass hazmat endorsement test > finger prints > TSA approval > License production.

I had wanted to do the finger prints and TSA approval part early but apparently TX doesn't participate in the program that will allow that or the program that will allow the TWIC background check to be used for hazmat clearance.

    Per the TSA website:

"Complete the online application or you can complete the entire process in person at an application center unless you are from any of the following states:
Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin, in which case, you should visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles for application and fingerprinting information.:"

When you go to the DPS office they specifically warn you about doing the process out of order b/c it cause delays or worse yet cause your whole application to get bounced and you'll have to start over.
