when was the last time you driver's checked the DOT tape on your trailer and tractor ? DOT is starting to issue tickets for this missing little item and using it as a reason to give you a nice thorough inspection when you roll through these chicken coops as of late i have had it happen to me twice. and fixed it cuz i am so awesome and carry DOT tape in my truck.
Ok that said check your DOT tape on your trailers ...not only that its hard to see a trailer with half of it missing as it is when its pouring rain and dark as hades that. I was told it's 200 buck ticket both times ...pretty steep for a ten buck roll of tape i think ... just some food for thought ...
brian
especially the sides of tanks and dot bumpers seem to be the favorite places for this tape to disappear on ...all major companies will put it on if you just got to the shop and ask them or get the tape from the shop and DIY.
Got DOT Tape on ur Trailer ?

That requirement came out many years ago and you're right it should be checked.
-
50% on the side of the trailer, 100% across the back of the trailer. Tractor? not on mine.
-
You can small short rolls at some truck stops too. $$$ but it's better than paying a fine!
-
The rear of the tractor cab is required to have some tape on it, White, showing the width and heighth of the cab, but what many drivers forget is that the tape is also required on the mudflaps on the rear of the tractor as well. The make bolt on sections for that location.

'07 truck I drive got nailed last May for "Inverted L's Not Visable". Pissed me off because this truck, and the rest in the company fleet, passed numerous inspections prior to me getting it. And it cost me a clean DOT inspection bonus. Company went into hyper mode getting all the trucks through the shop to put on new reflective tape in order to avoid another hit to their CSA score. -
It's actually 393.13

Some where in that mess is pretty pictures of all the locations too.
ETA:
You are correct...393.11....
.13 is for trailers. -
I know a driver that got ticketed on the tape deal. 2007?? Ever since then I started checking. I picked up one trailer that had no tape on the ICC bumper. I bought some, cleaned the bumper the best I could, but with the rust it would stick halfway. So I ended up using cable ties on it to get me down the road.

Back of the cab and mudflaps are ones I have seen written up a lot. Also doesn't hurt to wipe them off if they are real dirty. Worked at a Co-op delivering feed a couple of years ago and a driver was ticketed at night for missing some and being dirty ( we drove on a lot of gravel). Cost him $120 at the time.
