I have an AOBRD from Gorilla safety. What a piece of junk. It constantly drops connection to the adapter (bluetooth), like every 30-40 minutes, the internet stays on, but my iPad is getting hot. Also when it drops the Bluetooth connection the software puts me in "on duty". If you don't see this move and drive for awhile, you will end up with big mess in your log. Another thing is when you drive, every 2 hours or so, system adds current location and time and engine hours, that ARE NOT EDITABLE. When you edit the log from the manager account, the engine hours and location and time will show up and the LEO will see the violation. I prefer to use a good ELD device, that never disconnects and will plan ahead of time.

I even purchased Samsung android tablet, to see if the android app of Gorilla will work better, but no luck. The android Gorilla does not even connect to the adapter. The Bluetooth is searching the adapter for hours and no connection is made. Customer service = 0000000

    UPDATE ....

Do not get Gorilla Safety - piece of junk. I am using one right now and will be returning this useless garbage. Every time the adapter looses connection to Bluetooth, the software stamps a note on the log "Tampered", like I am trying to alter and edit the logbook. These people are so stupid, who the hell is going to buy their system.... ha-ha-ha. Just imagine, how this logbook will look in front of the DOT inspection with the note "Tampered" .....

When it comes to Bluetooth, look for an ELD that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (also called Bluetooth LE, BTLE, and BLE). It's a much more stable type of Bluetooth...that is, if implemented well by the hardware designer of course.

My boss has the exact same problems plus more with the AOBRD through Gorilla Safety. The two insurance agents that created this device won't even reply to any answers on why or what the device is doing. I researched and found a cell phone number for one and an email address for the other. Every time something goes very wrong I dread having to call customer service. No one knows how any part of the trucking industry really works, they Google most of their answers, and they push the work off on the foreigners that can't hardly speak any English! Now he's got this violation daily: VIN of the vehicle does not match with the VIN pulled from the VNA. I don't know what to do about it. Mark Walton and Tommy Johnson the co-owners of this company have yet to reply to me with an answer and it's been well over 2 weeks. I tried Googling the answer myself and found this and 4 other forums. My boss uses a Samsung Galaxy Tab E and it is 100% impossible to see how much time he has left to drive. It's 2/3 of the way cut off, so he'll call me in hopes I'm not at another job or sleeping to ask what it says on my side, the fleet side for time left. These devices really need to be stopped. They are irritating and causing more stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, ect than not using them at all. I don't even drive a truck and I'm fully fed up with the support the companies we have received these devices from, give and all the BS that comes with them.

What is suggested to solve this problem is a Bluetooth Low Energy ELD solution, which is a more stable and user-friendly type of Bluetooth. It's available from a number of ELD solution providers, including 3MD, Inc. in the midwest, ELD Mandate on the west coast, InTouchGPS on the east coast, etc. All of these solutions use PT30 hardware, which uses high quality components, such as U-Blox for GPS and Nordic for Bluetooth Low Energy. It's my understanding that the Gorilla Safety dongle uses a low cost chipset from China.
