They want robots for employees. Their usual policy is to hire from within the company. If you have an idea on how to do something that you think might work better you should keep it to your self. Its their way or the highway. I have first hand experience with these A-Holes and have absolutely no use for them.

Ya man I am in the foodservice industry now, and I'm either at the same exact place (as for some reason some restaurants INSIST on having every vendor they can get their hands on) or I see them around. Me and the one gentleman (his name escapes me at this time) get to talk the most on Wednseday when we are both inside the St Louis County prison receiving area. I know, at least in Missouri, they get a little base pay, mileage pay and per case pay. So the more you got, the more you will make, but I hear them always complaining stuff is loaded backwards and the one box they need is at the very bottom and all that. But then again thats just how it is with foodservice so I dunno if it's complaining aimed at Gordon or just the type of work in general. I do know when they are off on lets say, July 4th and that falls on a Tuesday or something, they do not combine routes as our company does, just push everything back a day and run Saturday. In St Louis they shuttle their trailers up from I wanna say Lexington? Maybe Paducah KY. ANd thats where u run into trouble if your loaded backwards or missing invoices or what have you. If you have no dock stop, unless you can run it backwards you have to work around ALL that crap. He said trailers usually come up from KY around 15,000lbs and during the holidays around 20,000. Which is a TON of stuff (not to mention probably over-gross) to cram in a pup. And in Missouri, at least, they have Denny's as a major account and prisons. At least thats where I see them is the St. Louis County prison systems. County, city, juvenile, etc. I dunno if they go to schools or not, it may be different in your area. I do know I was complaining one time that I don't get paid **** for the stuff I put up with, as my company just pays flat base pay, no matter how long you work, and they always say thats one good thing is they get paid decent. Around $65,000 is what he said. But he has been there awhile and might have a stacked route. The one gentleman is CONSTANTLY complaining saying he hates it and throwin a fit and chuckin' boxes in his trailer, and the other guy I see is just kinda chill and never says too much. SO every experience is different. Just know going into it your gonna have long days especially backing around Jim and Jan's restaurant with no parking lot, in the snow, and they want the canned goods to go upstairs. Great. But if it pays good it might be worth it man. Sorry I could not be of more help, just passin on the little bit I do know. Good luck in your decision Bud.

There are some good foodservice distributors out there. But I can tell you from first hand experience that Gordon or GFS as they like to be called is not one of them. If you don't know any better and have never worked for another food service company then you can be one of their puppets!
From their screwed up pay scale for drivers to the way they communicate with the employees with company voicemail because the supervisors are too gutless to actually talk to you on the phone or heaven forbid talk you to in person. They really believe that because they have multiple warehouses and and a large customer base that they are GOD'S gift to the foodservice industry!!! And you better believe that if you work there. I can personally vouch for this. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!

Try the Ocala terminal Bigarmin. My friend was hired there with absoulutely zero experience, he decided one day he wanted a CDL, went out and got it and never used it, this was back in 2005'ish. In 2011 he found GFS through EmployFlorida.com and interviewed with them and was hired as a route driver, note this wasn't local it is a daycab position but they run you in the Southeast paying for hotels for the nights that you are out.
He did this for about 2 weeks and realized he wasn't comfortable behind the wheel of a tractor trailer, but I believe there is an 800 dollar guarantee out of that terminal, and I'm pretty sure I saw a recent ad for them on EmployFlorida, maybed check them out?
I know it's a bit of a ride from Tampa to Ocala, but if you're working for 3-4 days at a time with a few days off in between, then it might not be too bad, just a thought...Bigarmin88 Thanks this. -
I don't have any experience at all. graduated cdl school 11/11/11 and I didn't want to go with an otr training company in hopes of finding something with ok pay and close to home. I've been going thru the interview process since 12/2 .This is the 3rd interview coming up on1/02 which is a road test. They also have a guarantee pay of 860 ish per week or an other option of miles and touch freight pay. I'm trying to be wise about choosing a company because I am used to making REALLY REALLY good $ and these training companies pay is really bad. I found a company who payed good but I couldn't Alley dock the short pup trailer for my life's sake .I kept dropping to low . They Turn really fast . The timing is different from what I learned with , 53' trailers .
