I am getting back into a truck after doing tree work for some time. Currently at 33 I am in better physical shape than I have been in years. I know how trucking is, you get hungry all the time and feel like eating. I would like ideas on healthy low fat snacks or ideas on how you stay in shape while trucking.

I will be doing local flatbed work, so there will be some tarping and getting in and out so that should be a help.

These are foods that hold up and last - also watch calorie intake as well as bad fats.
    • Apples
    • Green Bananas ( lower sugar content high in potassium)
    • Air popped popcorn
    • Cheese sticks (protein snack)
    • Walnuts, almonds and cashews ( watch calorie intake)
    • Beef jerky - High in protein low calories but high in sodium
    • Low fat greek yogurt - Good for gut health High in protein, low in calories ( great if you have a fridge)
    • Low fat cottage cheese - high in protein
    • Hard boiled eggs - High in protein low calories
    • Carrot sticks

Also carry a 10 - 15 pound kettlebell and a couple of 10 pound dumb bells and resistance bands. You can get a good cardio and muscle workout inside or outside the truck and they do not take up too much space.

Depending on the freight you are hauling -- your flatbed job may just be all the "workout" you really need....

Of course healthy food is the key. If you want to stay in shape don't eat until you feel stuffed but almost full instead, maybe 80% full. Flatbed work is more physically demanding than a dry van or reefer but does not give you enough exercise to allow you to eat as much as your appetite tells you.

Anything high in fiber, especially soluble fiber. That'll keep you feeling full for long stretches. I have broccoli florets, carrots, celery, and cucumbers in my fridge. Those are typical snacks. I also buy a lot of nuts. I'd eat some beans too. That's a soluble fiber and you'll feel full for hours on end, because they take forever to digest. Just crack the window lol

Pork an beans you mean? I can eat a can myself. Then play music no radio needed. Entertainment for long stretches. Just gotta watch for a wet one.

Screw all that crap. Pizza, hot dogs, tacos. God put that stuff in truck stops and gave us fuel points for a reason. It would be un-holy to not obey his will....

    Thy shall be done :)

You got a point. God has a plan for us. Maybe that’s his plan for us to eat roller dogs with chili cheese sauerkraut and ketchup

What you don't eat you never have to burn off with 4 hours of jogging. One Snickers is a few hundred calories. It can take hours of exercise to burn those same calories. The additional calories between a small and medium drink or medium and large drink or serving of food is key to not adding weight.

That's pretty much exactly what I keep in the truck. I buy bananas and boil eggs once a week.

I also like Veggie straws and I'm big on having a glass of fruit juice a day, pure stuff, grapefruit, grape, orange. V8 is great too but I get sick of it.

I get granola in bulk wherever I can find it cheap and eat it in the truck with almond milk and whatever fruit I can find to throw in, like frozen blueberries.

Almond milk lasts a lot longer than regular milk.
