get a regular step deck, and get the ramps that can also be used as levelers. then ya got all bases covered.

although the ramps wouldnt be a necessity starting out, but if you can swing it get em

:biggrin_25513: Agree with Skateboardman...We have one of those type Stepdeck trailers and it sits. None of our Drivers "including me" like it. I drag a Landoll 435B much more versatile. can load virtually anything that moves drives rolls or can be dragged by the winch, as well as dock loaded or forklift loaded materials equipment etc. That said I didn't have to buy it, needs wet kit, higher maint. costs, and prob. other drawbacks I've not experienced

Just my .02 which is probably worthless. But hey My opinion and $3 will get you a cup of Coffee at Flo's.

I actually agree with skateboardman if you get a step as I have a 53 ft step with a sliding spread. I dont have ramps or levelers but do like the idea of a ramp/leveler combo. BUT before buying ANY type of trailer, figure out who you are going to run for and what they mostly have freight for. For instance you buy the step deck and they mostly have 48 ft flat freight then you just wasted your time and money.

I didnt just go and get the stepdeck on a whim. I pulled a 48 ft flatbed for the company I am leased to for a year and was happy. Its really something you should research before going further.

I would not want to load on that type of trailer, dragged a beaver tail lowboy for a while and the seat pucker factor loading is not to my taste.

A wet line trailer setup ads anywhere from 1500 pounds to three thousand pounds on your empty weight.

If you do as others suggested and purchase a drop deck that would be far better than a beaver tail and more versatile, if you do get the ramps look for a trailer that has the back hinges already installed since more than once I watched ramps fold if they did not hook to the trailer. Perhaps it was driver oversight or just plain stupidity, but nothing more dangerous in my opinion.

Better have a light truck because that thing looked heavy. If you get a light 53ft step where you can scale 48,000 on the deck. You can haul most flatbed loads.

I have a 53' Transcraft Stepdeck with ramps/levelers I weigh 33380 completely full of fuel and def with 16 chains 24 Binders,if you find a local shipper to haul for and broker straight back works nice for me, sometimes I have to make a big triangle but the 53' step works for my area, if most of your outbound freight is 50' pipe then a 53' flat sounds best, but if you haul a lot of cattle gates, then maybe a 53' step is best

if I ever get back into heavy equipment,

I'd like to get one of these I think. They are also a local company for me.

Just going to start with a step deck to get back into equipment.

Guards had me hauling hmmwv's, bradley fighting vehicles and M577 and M113 armored personnel carriers on a fixed goose neck.
