I wanted to ask someone who might know --
I got my newest version of my Colorado CDL today (the one with the nice 'TX' on it) and I noticed it features a gold star in the upper RT corner. Does anyone know what the gold star stands for? I tried my Google skills but came up with nothing.

Colorado driver's licenses and identification cards issued after July 1, 2013 will have a gold star in the upper right hand corner, the Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles has announced. The marking will facilitate the verification of the authenticity of the cards by federal agencies that require identification for official purposes.
The department will send notification to all law enforcement agencies as well as the public, so that everyone is adequately informed of the change.
Those who have licenses or identification cards that do not have a gold star on the top right hand corner due to their documents being issued prior to July 1, 2013, will not need to renew until their cards expire.
All cards currently in circulation are Real ID compliant. Customers will be able to renew online or in a driver's license office once their cards expire.
When they receive a new card, the gold star will be shown on their cards.mje and Criminey Jade Thank this. -
Maybe you need a new Google?
I found that in 3 seconds.

They are all going to a harder to falsify id card(license). Iowa switched to an embossed license that has to be sent in the mail, the license station issues a paper temporary with your photo in monochrome. There is a windmill across the license of both the temporary and the permanent one. I had one of the first, the first I had seen, and I noticed lots of things to make it harder to fake .
DMV photos are still bad, though.Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
Indicates federally compliant license.

It has to do with the new RealID that is being implemented. The guy that handled my renewal just recently explained that the star is part of the system that proves it is actually a valid license and not a forgery.

Sure glad I'm not a kid anymore. I remember the days when a razor blade and some super glue was all it took to make a fake id.

The realID act,
only in effect in 25 states.
And will most likely be appealed and never fully implemented.
Compliments of your fed gov't...........
