I am located in Central MN and a new owner operator, but have 15 yrs experience with heavy equipment and driving.. i currently have a job lined up for hauling logs with that im renting the rail log trailer from the loggers. I'm wondering what is the going rate per mile and average cost to rent a log trailer. Thanks

I never hauled logs but most are paid by the ton mile I believe. Hence the reason many load a bit extra . Here in Canada I believe they get a weight allowance on frozen roads not sure if the USA does the same.

Probably why there's no such thing as a 5 axle in logging out here anymore. Rates based off 7 or 8 axle configurations. Can't get enough weight on 5 to make a living.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
How’s it been going so far? 2 years in now and it’s been a pretty rough go in southern AR -
I’m paying $200-250 a week to a friend for trailer depending on how much I was able to work. Around here hauling costs are figured kinda weird. $7 a ton for 0-30 miles. An extra 15 cents per each additional mile after 30. So a 30 ton load at 30 miles would gross $210. A 30 ton load at 50 miles would gross $300. Fuel is currently $4.00 here
