WiseOne's Comments, another example of why NOT to text message while driving. Sigh. Such a waste at 16 years old. I HATE being around people on the road that are text messaging...

Can't blame it all on text messages she was also under age and was drunk

I wouldn't say you "can't" but I would say it was definitely a contributing factor in the fatal crash.. No way should a a kid or anybody far as that goes be texting driving down the road.. I am afraid we are going to see this a lot more.. My sister (16) gets a least 200 text a day.. I have seen 400+ on her phone (unanswered)

True, MOST people I know text a LOT now and a LOT while driving as well. Of course her being drunk at 16 and being an inexperienced driver would have something to do with it...but texting, while driving, takes your eyes off the road...drunk or not.
pjw044 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
I read a while back where a deputy's 2 sons were driving 5 miles apart at 1:30 a.m. and were talking to each other on their cell phones . Within minutes they both died in separate crashes . It's possible the second crash occurred when that brother had heard his brother crash and was speeding to the scene . http://www.sptimes.com/2005/12/09/Worldandnation/2_sons_lost__minutes_.shtml

Texting didn't seem to be the only factor to the accident....drinking and speeding. Hopefully all kids will learn not to any of the 3 but most kids have the mind set nothing will happen to them.

I was invincible and indestructible at 16 too! It partially comes down to how you are raised. I hardly text at all, and never while driving. Unfortunately, she didn't get to learn a lesson, nor will very many learn from this either. I agree with you WiseOne - it's a total waste. I'm just glad my almost 17 year old is smart enough not to do any of those three things. He's got a good head on his shoulders. So do my 20 year old and my 13 year old.

My sons GF almost put her car in a ditch while driving over here. She was texting, she wasn't drunk, and had she gone in that ditch, more than likely, she would have been seriously injured or killed. All it takes is a split second to loose control, or to have to correct the vehicle, in which most teens over correct, causing accidents.
We have laws here that states any cellular device being used by any minor while driving is an instant citation. Couple that with the fact that most that have been ticked for that offense, weren't wearing seat belts, and you have a deadly combination.
I still see people that pull over, to answer calls, and I commend them for having common sense. I personally don't use the cell when driving, because I don't have blue tooth, and feel that the room for error is too great for me to jeopardize other drivers around me. I let the call go to Voice Mail, and then call that person back, when I'm parked. It's just not worth it to me.PappyGT13 Thanks this.
