This company is coming to my hometown in Albany, GA in Late 2019. I’m a OTR/Regional. I want to go local in the summer as hauler logs. I can’t find anything about logging trucking.

Most pull out of the woods. Dirty, rough on a truck. I hauled logs starting in I think 1993. Guy that we started hauling for told me this.
Son don't know if you ever did drugs.. But logs put drugs to shame. He was right, it was additive. Always wanted one more load. This was when we could run around the clock if we wanted to.
My day started around 3am. Left out with a load of Saw logs. Headed 3 hours south. Then haul a load of pup wood back home 3 hours. Then haul 8 or 10 hours around there to the mills. Then load up for the next morning. We did not have scales. Thus you would have one load that looked heavy. But would only gross 72K, Next load would look way lite. But would weight 102K
Below is if your looking to buy your own truck.
If I were hauling logs again. I would want a 13 speed or 18. Good HP, big rears. Also may have changed over the years. But everyone used to run 24.5 rubber. Need the ground Clearance in the woods.
As with my loads on a log trailer or Flatbed. Strap down, pull out to the hwy. Tighten straps again, as they will be flopping. Even if its 300 yds to the road. Those logs will settle down enough, your getting a ticket. If your checked, because load is not secured.
Next will they be taking tree length or log length trees? If its all tree length, I would shoot for a pole trailer. Pay for it's self in a short time on Extra Tons to the mill. Every ton is extra pay, if your hauling 3 or 4 tons more per load. In a months time that is a payment.
Be sure to add good flood lights to the rear of the tractor. Backing up to the landing in the dark. There priceless for sure.
Logs are way above top heavy. Not an issue, but you have to remember your top heavy. If the loader guy throws a big load on top, on the side. And you high a curve a little hot. Kiss that butt good by. I almost rolled one like that. Hit a 40 MPH curve at 38 MPH. Guy behind me asked if I had any ideal how many tires were off the ground? Told him I was sure 8 was off the ground. He told me I guess right.
Loved hauling logs, pay was not that great. For us hours was long, loads were heavy. Here in Tn and Al we could haul 88,000 lbs out of the woods legal. Ms we were only allowed 82,000 . Both states if you were over that weight. The ticket started at 80,00 lbs. Last one I got was for 112,000 lbs. Even the scale guy had me circle around and weight it again. Then looked over the load. Laughed and told me,he would have pulled out with it also.
If you load on one side of the holler. Logs will be heavy, move 100 ft that same size log will weigh way less.

I drive for PTI and do a lot of Georgia Pacific finished product, but I see the receiving end of the log trucks with massive 'Prentice?' cranes. Log trucks scale in and out and I think they pull through some station to remove whatever their load securement is. It looks like they all keep going steady.

Not sure though if they have to go into the woods or if GP's logging operation or cranes move the logs.
