Are galaxy cb/export radios worth their price? I can't find any for really good prices like I do cobra. Other than extra features like SSB, are they worth it? I hear they have "loud audio," but so does any radio near 100% modulation. I also hear they have frequency drift issues and are notorious for cold solders coming apart. Despite this, they have a strong following.

They seem popular on the internet, but I rarely talk to another operator using a galaxy on air. They're usually running a cobra, then less likely connex or general Lee. Maybe talked to a Galaxy operator once in years.

    No

My latest buy from a trucker at the pilot in Monroe mi was $25 and a cobra 29ltd for a 959 with all kinds of great mods.

He was so disgusted with it but didn't say why. It sounded like complete crap on the air.

I still got my 949 I got for $3.25 it works good since I took the crap mods out of it.

    I had a Galaxy 44 & two 33's. Personally, I love'em. I REALLY liked my 44. The next radio I get, I hope it'll be a 949 or 959.
I'll say again, personally, I liked mine. Again... its all about personal preference. I am sure Galaxy's have issues. As well, I am sure along the way, a Cobra 29 Classic's (which is what I have now) have issues along the way.

I am in the same boat as Grumppy. I have two galaxy radios, one 44V and one 919. The 919 was my first radio and it is still a great radio! Just today i was able to get my 44V working properly,(peaked and tuned) and i am in love with my 44V! Very loud audio with talkback/echo, pushing about 40 watts. Someone tells me i am loud and clear every time i talk to someone. The original DX44V is discontinued but replaced with model DX44HP. Same features but newer internals!

Galaxy still offers many high powered CB radios, browse their website! I love both my galaxies and would recommend them to anyone. They offer a radio that has a built in amplifier (DX47HP) that pushes 100 watts right out of the box.

Any galaxy radio that has been peaked and tuned by a professional technician should have no problems impressing you with performance and longevity.

A long time ago I had a Galaxy 959 with a Motorola mrf 477 conversion done to it and I was quite happy with that particular radio.

That is the radio I run, turned up to 150. Really does a good job both ways. OP, most of us that run high power radios do not advertise the fact, I want mine to stay right where it is, in the roof console. FYI when a big radio is set up properly you do not know it is a big radio unless you are 15-20 miles away from it.

You gotta love it when you're pushing 600 watts and some guy a block away says it sounds like you're talking on a stock Cobra 29.
When it sounds the same up close and far away you know you're doing something right.

I've been pleased with my galaxy. One thing everyone tells me is I'm loud. The warranty was a plus as well. However wI think all the buttons and knobs, one can get lost in a hurry.

You already have a gen lee..correct?
If so, you have a "rebranded" galaxy export radio. They have the exact same rci board as a galaxy 33 44 55, along with connex, mirage, and others that I fail to remember at this time. Only difference, are the features offered on the faceplate, the echo boards are a little different.. etc. And you are correct about the cold solder joint problem... cheap parts...cheap solder.. I reckin

Dont know much about the 9xx series, straight galaxy cb's. They sound good on air if they arent hacked up. And ssb drift is an issue, that seems to get mentioned alot.

I dont care much for 'em myself.. jmo. I know alot of guys like 'em though.
