Galaxy dx 959 question

SSB will get out better than AM

I have had 2 959;s they are good radios they are legal 40 ch radios ON BOTH AM/SSB Gadfly Please give me the 120 ch frequencies ?

 

The 959 will never get more then 12-16 watts without replacing certain items inside the radio and it will not last long at those 12-16 watts either.

 

But Rat WHY ???????

You can buy a 250 watt linear for $100 and I'll bet modding a 959 to dual finals will cost you at least 1/2 that for 20-40 watts .......

 

He was talking about opening up and twisting a few pots to get more power out of it. I have done this by request and the most I have seen is about 12-16 watts. The bad thing is the radios did not live long and I mentioned that too the guys that requested it done anyway.

If a person is going to get it modded up with dual finals etc inside then they may as well take their money and get a converted higher power ten meter or get a linear and leave the radio alone.

Only thing is that if the OP does get a ten meter radio that has been converted, is to stay on the 11 meter band. Usually not much going on on the ten meter band anyway. Well not in my area.

It is the ARRL 10 meter contest and they say the band may be open ....

I will be on 28.400 as well as 29.600

That was my point if you want more power get a amp I had 2 of the 959's its a nice radio but i like my GRANT better .

 

If you want to get out further, I suggest skipping on trying to adjust posts and such (especially if you don't have the right tools, o scope, etc) and instead getting the very best antenna you can run.

Believe it or not the antenna is what makes or breaks the radio.

Galaxy 959 is a 4 watt CB radio, not a export and not 50 watts. When they add or change transistors to increase the wattage and or increase the audio past 100% it becomes a illegal radio that no longer meet FCC type acceptance.

easier just buy an amp.

 

IF you want more RF out of a 959, Try this route...TS-350....2watts out of radio into amp ( I low ball it at .8 watts SOMETIMES 1.25w) and a decent WELL GROUNDED antenna and mount. Going INSIDE and twisting RF pots is NO MUI BUENO! And spending the money for dual Mossfett finals with no real need is a waste of hard earned money. If that doesnt matter to you by all means go see your Radio Dr. and git er done..
