Lol....this is why there are more rear end accidents...common sence and some courtesy would go a long way for our industry. I know it's a hassle but if you see someone merging move if you can its not that hard. I don't slam on brakes either but I wouldn't make em hit me to make a point either
Future career or dead end.

My jaw is on the ground. 2000 lb car V truck. You got to be kidding. Idiots can be replaced, they make them ride the bus. Were special. Act like it.

go to tech school.

And if someone cuts me off and slams on their brakes, I'd much rather put my truck into their back seat instead of swerving and losing control. Avoiding a non-preventable accident to get yourself into a preventable accident makes no sense at all. Weren't you taught that hitting an object in conflict with you is better than taking evasive action? It's written in every CDL handbook.Last edited: Apr 16, 2013
Tonythetruckerdude and Drac1985 Thank this. -
Also, be sure ALL your earned wages are being accounted for when it comes to social security, as required by federal law. You can either call your local social security office or go online to check and be sure that ALL your past and present wages have been and are currently being accounted for.
To qualify for any social security benefits, one must have at least 40 quarters, (ten years), into social security. There are 4 quarters in any given year. When a person of retirement age is ready to collect on their social security, one of the calculations is based on the highest 420 months, (35 years). 35 years x 12 months = 420 months.
AGAIN, IF YOU DO GO ALONG WITH THIS ADVICE, try to have at least 35 years accounted for in your social security account, BEFORE going into trucking. By that time, you will be at least in your mid 50's, (around 55 years of age).
The earliest age, one can collect social security is 62. One's retirement benefits reach their maximum at age 70.
People who can collect social security before the age of 62 are the ones who qualify for disability.
GOD FORBID that you or anyone else becomes disabled that a disability check is needed from social security!
NOTE:
If one thinks about it, truck driving is the equivalent of an athlete in professional sports: one injury or mishap can end your career in a split second. In more extreme situations, one injury or mishap can, GOD FORBID, permanently cripple, paralyze, or kill you.
Good luck to you!
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Apr 17, 2013

1) retired military, law enforcement, and corrections officers with 20 to 30 plus years of service receiving their full retirement pensions - retirement ages ranging from as young as 37 to as old as 62 plus
2) retired civil servants, (federal, state, county, & municipal), 55 plus years of age receiving their full pensions
3) retired union workers who completed 30 years of service at 55 plus years of age receiving their full pensions
4) parent(s) whose children are fully grown, fully educated, fully self sufficient and out on their own
5) parents who do not have to worry about taking care of aging parents, (or parent-in-laws), of their own - SADLY & TRAGICALLY, this only happens after the aging parents, (or parent-in-laws), all too often have passed away
6) single people who do not have any children to support - divorced spouses who do not have to worry about alimony or child support payments
7) older workers age 62 and older who are close to receiving social security retirement benefits
8) people who don't have houses or other properties to worry about as maintenance, break-ins, etc.
9) people with clean credit ratings, excellent credit scores, and who are fully out of debt
NOTE:
As all truck drivers very well know, driving a truck is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS & SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB. Therefore, it is best for ALL truck drivers to have an absolute MINIMUM amount of stress and pressure on their heads and shoulders.
NOTE:
Also, if one REALLY & TRULY thinks about it, ALERTNESS as a professional truck driver is almost paramount to that of a person in the military, law enforcement, security, and corrections in our nations jails, prisons, and penitentiaries.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Apr 17, 2013

As the others have said maybe you should wait a little bit and I hate to say it but find a driving school to attend. This field isn't for everyone. I know many who are good car drivers but wouldn't trust em to drive me to the corner in a big truck.the only way to know for sure is apply to the big carriers when you get your CDL and see who will hire you. If no one does then find a local carrier and hope for the best. Don't take offence but this industry already has enough steering wheel holders.sad but true
mje Thanks this. -
Well then I guess I should get out of this industry then by your standards. Guess I really need to take advice from someone who isn't a professional driver.
mje Thanks this. -
The above is some of the BEST dammed advice you will ever get.I wish someone would have told me that at 21, I'd be a lot better off today..
mje Thanks this. -
