So my 2007 KW T6 with Cummins ISX was originally spec'd with two fuel filters. Donaldson P552200 and P552203 (this is what the dealer tells me based on the VIN). I just noticed that the shop that's been doing my PM's for the last couple of years has been putting on a P552200 and a P551000. The second one is a fuel water separator.

Is this a problem? What are the pros/cons to running with or without a water separator?

I would never run without one. There is no downside to not having water in fuel

I noticed Paccar specing those exact filters and had more than one discussion with owners where the water goes. Having worked for CAT and Cummins I can assure you OEM's don't follow engine manufacturers recommendations to the letter. I would go to Fleetguard's site and check out filtration and flow specs and make your decision based on facts.

So are you recommending to go with the separator?
