I have a 91 Pete and the fuel tank straps failed. The straps are aluminum and failed where they connect to the bottom part of the frame bracket where the bolt slides thru. Looks like metal fatigue was the culprit.
Are the stainless replacement straps stronger than the aluminum ones? Also are there any strength gains in going to 4 strap instead of the factory 2 strap setup?

Two is good and stainless is many times stronger. Don't over tighten the aluminum straps.
zx150 Thanks this. -
Is there a suggested torque rating to use while tightening down?

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet he's the guy who cost me a fuel tank!

30 ft/lbs iirc its not very much l know that. Those aluminum ones were famous for breaking. Go with 2 stainless ones for sure. Pretty expensive to upgrade to 4 l think if you have to change the hanger bracket.

there is a torque spec. our tanks had the spec imprinted in the tanks by the cap. but i cant recall them. 8LBs for steel straps and 30 for alumy...?
