My tank was dirty and had a lot of crap in it. My filter was clogged after just a few hours of running it around the yard.
So I drained all of the old fuel out of it and washed the tank out with diesel.
It looks much better but I have algae. It is not the gritty type, it is the black gooey type. I cut my filter open and the bottom was actually sticky. I put my finger in the bottom of the tank where I drained it and it is gooey sticky. You can see it on the walls of the tank.
I have been reading that some people will send their tank out to be cleaned. I have heard of other people they clean them themselves with trailer Brite or some other type cleaner. I have also read where some people will put a product like kill em in there and they keep changing their filters until everything is clean.
So that's where I'm at. Not sure if I should take the tank out and send it to be cleaned somewhere, whether I should try to clean it myself, or if I should just put a product in there then keep changing my filters.
I honestly really don't want to take the tank off the truck, but if I need to I will.
Anybody have any experience with any of this?

I had algae bad once. First I had water, filter was rusty looking. Then I had black round silicone looking droplets in filter. It was algae. I used the kill em, it worked real good. I had to change filters, at least 3-4 times. I use a Donelson # p551000 It’s a Cummins filter, with a separator drain on it. I don’t use the drain. They make the same filter w/o the drain, but I don’t know the #. Check them out, the specs looked good to Me. It’s a big filter that still has good flow even when it’s almost full of crud. It should keep any trash out. I haven’t had a plugged filter since I started using them, and the ppm filtering specs are good. I could even get away with not changing the secondary, it seems. But I always do ofcourse. Check for yourself on that filter, In case I’m wrong. Lol.

I was recommended the Cummins fs1000 filter. That's probably a similar filter that you use on your series 60.
It is a 10 micron filter and it's a large tall filter with a water separator. I was told the same thing about the flow even when it's almost full.
I will be really happy if I don't have to take the tank off the truck and I can just use a treatment.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

Gotcha! That is the same filter.
I will have to order extras because my system uses a single filter.
I will order the killem tomorrow.
I want to killem all!!!Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I have hot water washed them out on the truck. Dried the tanks with a torpedo heater blowing on them. If you can have a primary filter inline with a BF970? or LFF440? that would cut down on filter changes a lot.
I am running a skid steer like that now but have a serviceable wire mesh filter in line. It has no drain and have to pull the engine for fuel tank removal. It was parked for a long time and the fuel cap was off.
Pumped the tank out into waste oil. Pressure washed it and pumped that out. Filled it up with fuel and Killem. We are about 80% fuel used. Cleaned out the screen about 6 or 8 times and one spin on fuel filter.
You should be able to do better than that but I would just mount a primary filter base on the frame. I you can find an A Model Cat primary screen you would not have to buy many filters.SAR, Rideandrepair and Dino soar Thank this. -
Power services bio kleen diesel fuel treatment ( white Bottle green label) works good. One bottle per tank double strength with full fresh fuel and extra filters on hand.

You could just buy the base and bolt it right on the frame like Pet and KW used to do. Hook the line from the tanks to it. Then a line from it to your existing filter. The first one is just to be a bird catcher. Something like a LFF8030 might be better but I am not having much luck finding ratings. The 440 and 970 are primary on some of our Cats.
There is somebody around here might be able to shoot you a picture of on of one. It is just a steel canister filter with a screen in it. I believe that 2 stick Pet field find had one one it. Just thought you might have one lying around.Dino soar Thanks this. -
No, just get a single head with a bracket, mount it on the frame, between fuel pump, and engine(secondary) fuel filter. My engine usually has a 5206 on the frame, I think it’s the same as a LFF440, and a 5207 on engine. The 5206 is smaller than the 5207, it would plug quick, but before the 5207, I guess because it’s smaller. The heated bowl deal was a common upgrade, it was built with. I guess I have it backwards, in a way. But the big filter still plugs before the smaller secondary. You could run 2 of the 1000s if you wanted. One on the frame, and another on the Truck. Ideally the one on Truck w/o a drain. I don’t like the drains, and never use them, just tighten them up good. I don’t trust them, plastic, might suck air. If You find the same filter equivalent to the 1000, without a drain, let Me know. I had one once, but lost the #.If You but another head, make sure the threads match the filter, you want to use. there’s 2 common threads. I’m pretty sure threads for the 440 are same as 1000
